St. Pauls Lutheran Church

Pomaria

St. Paul's Lutheran Church - 1938

Second oldest church in the county. The land was deeded by the King of England

St. Paul's was organized in 1761 by the Reverend Joachim Bulow on land granted to him. Among the pastors, the Reverend Frederick Joseph Wallern was one of the founders of the "Corpus Evangelicum" of 1787. In 1824 the Reverend S. Herschner, while pastor, was secretary and first treasurer of the South Carolina Synod.

For many years St. Paul's formed a parish with St. Phillip's and Bachman Chapel but in 1962 became self-supporting. The present stone church was dedicated in 1938 (above), and the present parsonage constructed in 1963. The parish building was erected in 1954.
