The Rev. James C. Vaughan, died of abscess of the lungs at
his residence in Laurens District on 17th January in the sixty second year of
his age. Mr. V. married Mary T., a daughter of Edward Pitts, Esq. of Newberry
District, she dying he married Ursula, the widow of W.R. Smith of Laurens
District, in both connections he was eminently blest and made happy. He leaves
one son by his first and his widow and one daughter by the last marriage to
mourn their irreparable loss. The subject was extensively known and highly

He attached himself
to the Baptist Church of Christ at Cross Road in Newberry District. In a few
years he, together with his brother-in-law, Silas Hill, was licensed by that
church to exorcise in public. He was called on to witness the death of his
beloved brother and co-worker in Christ form Consumption, brought on as was
generally supposed by preaching and he having a pre-disposition to an affection
of the lungs, that he would go the same way. He had many former slaves and he
was beloved and respected by them which was shown by the deep interesting they
took in him during his illness and the attendance of all of them at his burial.

Raymond Vinge
PROSPERITY - Services for Raymond Melvin "Ray" Vinge, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randall S. Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends 7-8 this evening at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Mr. Vinge died Saturday at the Mariner Health East
Nursing Home in Sumter. Born in Glenwood, Minn., he was a son of Axel and Rose
Margaret Vinge. He was a retired farmer, a Veteran of World War II and a member
of Macedonia Lutheran Church. Mr. Vinge was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Ruth
Moore Vinge; and two sisters, Miss Clara Vinge and Mrs. Pearl Margaret Peterson
Morgan. Surviving are his
brothers, Arnold Peter Vinge and his wife, Eunice of Arizona and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Frances Vines
NEWBERRY - A graveside
service for Frances Evelyn Vines, 83, will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in West
End Cemetery. McSwain-Evans Funeral Home is in charge. Miss Vines died August 13, 2002. Born in Newberry, she was
a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Lottie Koon Vines. She had served as
an Army nurse during World War II and retired from the Veterans Administration
hospital. Surviving are a brother,
Captain Thomas E. Vines, U.S. Navy (Ret.), of Honolulu; a number of nieces and
nephews.
Joyce
Vaughn
Greenwood Joyce Graham Vaughn, 64, of 128 Cherokee
Drive, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence O'Neal and Cummings Lever Graham. Retired: Piedmont Technical College. Survivors: Husband, Gary Vaughn a daughter, Denise Vaughn of Greenville a son, Neal Vaughn of Greenville a sister, Winnifred Davenport of Newberry and a grandson.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark United Methodist Church. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Graham Cemetery. Memorials: St. Mark United Methodist Church, 550 By Pass 72 NW, Greenwood, SC 29649.
