 Last Will and Testament of William J. Butler

Newberry District In the name of God Amen. I William J. Butler of Newberry District and State aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind and memory but weak in body, do make and ordain this my last will, in the following manner, that is to say:

First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth G. Butler all my estate during her natural life or widow head and at her death to be sold on such terms as my executor hereafter named may think best and the proceeds equally divided between my four children Vis William C. Butler, Priscilla J. Butler, James C. Butler and Mary E.S. Butler and in the event that my wife Elizabeth G. Butler should marry then my will is that all my estate be sold as aforesaid and be equally divided between my wife Elizabeth G. Butler and my four children above named, and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my Brother-in-law Thomas A.W. Chalmers Executor of this my last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the twentieth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine.
