WALKER COUNTY ALABAMA 1907 CONFEDERATE CENSUS
 
Full Name:  SHERER, JOHN MINTER  Present post office address:   America, Ala.  was born on December 20, 1841 near Bullock Creek Church in the county of York District in the state of South Carolina; first entered the service as private in July 1861 – mustered in at Courtland, Ala. in the Company B (Capt Ashford) 16th Ala. Infantry and continued until about March 1865 – when we got to Augusta Ga. there was none of my company left except myself and the orderly sergeant – James Ponder – we came home and as the army soon surrendered we never went back – I was never paroled.

Full Name:  SHERER, J. TAYLOR.  Present post office address: Jasper, Ala.  Was born on Dec 11, 1846 in the county of York in the state of S. C.; first entered the service as private in June 1864 – volunteered at Jasper, Ala. in the company K – 4th Ala. Calvary and continued until captured – paroled at Selma in early part of April 1865
 
Full Name:  SHERER, JOSEPH THOMAS (dink)?  Present post office address Jasper, Ala.  Was born on April 8, 1848 at Bullock’s Creek. in the county of York District in the state of South Carolina; first entered the service as private on April or May 1864 at recruiting station, Eldridge, Ala. in the Company K (Capt E. D. KELLY) 4th Ala. Calvary and continued until captured between Randolph Station and Montevallo about March 1, 1865 by Capt. Dodd’s Company of 4th Michigan Calvary – kept in stockade at Selma, Ala. about 15 days and carried to Montgomery, Ala. and paroled April 13, 1865
 
Full Name:  SHERER, WILLIAM THOMAS.  Present post office address: Jasper, Ala.  RFD 1  Was born on January 20, 1847 at Bullock’s Creek in the county of York district in the state of South Carolina; first entered the service as private on June 18, 1864 – went from Jasper, Ala to Company at Corinth Miss in the Company K (E. D. Kelley) 4th Ala. Calvary and continued until close of war – paroled about May 8 1865
 
Full Name:  STEEDMAN, JOHN BUNYAN  Present post office address:  Saragossa, Ala. Was born on January 2, 1835 near Rock Hill in the county of York District in the state of South Carolina; first entered the service as private in Sept 1862 at Holly Grove, Walker co. Ala. in eth Company A (Guttery’s) Hewlett’s Battalion Ala. Calvary later known as Company L 56th Ala. Calvary – continued till close of war paroled in Georgia in May 1865
 
Full Name:  STURGIS, JOSHUA FRANKLIN  Present post office address: Kansas, Ala.  Was born on Dec. 30 1840 at Rock Hill in the county of York Dist. in the state of South Carolina; first entered the service as private on Aug 1st 1862 at Jasper Ala. in Company A (Gutterys) Hewletts Battalion Later known as Company L 56th Ala. Calvary and continued until close of war – was at home on furlough when command surrendered and I was not paroled.
 
Full Name:  TURNER, ELIHU  Present post office address: Jasper, Ala.  Was born on May 5, 1831 in the county of York Dist in the state of South Carolina’ first entered the service as private on August 1862 at Tuscaloosa, Ala in the Company D. (Capt Adams) 36th Ala. Infantry (Col Woodruff) and continued until captured at Missionary Ridge Nov. 25, 1863 – released from Rock Island Prison some time in May 1865
