"Tennessee Trails" through Bedford County
The records of Mt. Hermon Church in Bedford County TN show that Thomas Jefferson Hart was received into the church by experience in October 1886. He was appointed clerk pro tem in 1895. He was dismissed by letter on October 6, 1906, then joined Oakman Baptist Church in Madison County, Alabama, where he remained until his death.
Jeff played baseball as a young man and was an ardent baseball fan all his life. He was a farmer until Jenny died, then he worked as a night watchman. On his 80th birthday he decided he had worked long enough - and so he quit that same day.
Jeff was a very healthy, strong person all his life. At age 80 he could hold any of his sons or grandsons by the hand and bring them to their knees. At 88 he could name all his relatives he had ever known and the ages of most of them. Jenny, his wife, was a schoolteacher.
Thomas Jefferson Hart was born May 29, 1871 in Dean, TN and died June 11, 1963 in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Martha Virginia "Jennie" Carter was born July 30, 1871 in Mulberry TN, daughter of Henry Marion and Mary Elizabeth (Miles) Carter. She died March 10, 1939 in Sandusky Alabama. Both are buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham Alabama.
They were the parents of four children - Ida Bell who married Dan Franklin Huskey; Samuel Robert Hart married Frances Audrey Howard; Henry Jefferson Hart who married Mary Thelma White and Jasper Carmack Hart who married Donna Belle Trippe.
