Orators, Samuel Rainey of Giles County, Tennessee and John G. Rainey of Maury County, Tennessee, states that sometime
in the summer of 1833 your orator Lemuel was called upon and did make a settlement between Brazellia G. Rainey and Isaac Rainey, who were then merchants .and partners in trade of one part and Isaac Rainey who was the other of your orators and the said Barzellia G. and Isaac N. and that at that time the claims and demands of the said Isaac, against the Brazellia G. and Isaac N., were equal or nearly equal to the claims and. demands of the said Brazellia G. and Isaac N. against the said Isaac. Isaac Rainey during the year 1833 and 1835 was the owner of a farm of 160 or 170 acres of land in Bedford County with 60 or 70 acres cleared. He also had 6 negroes. The said Brazellia G. Rainey and Isaac N. Rainey were merchants and partners in trade. Orator states that on 18 June 1836 Isaac Rainey died having made his will. He died in Bedford County. Your orators were appointed admrs. Will probated July 1836 Bedford County.
Lemuel Rainey, admr. of Isaac Rainey, deceased, whose Last Will and Testament directs that the negroes mentioned in the petition should be sold, after the death of Sarah Rainey his wife, and their proceeds divided, in certain proportions in said will mentioned among his children and it also appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the said Sarah Rainey died in the month of April last (1843). It is therefore ordered by court that Lemuel Rainey sell negroes to highest bidder on credit of 12 months, taking bond with good security for the payment of the purchase monty, at the Court House in the Town ofLewisburg, Marshall County, TN.
