MRS. ALEX S. CALDWELL superintendent of the Tennessee Vocational School for Girls at Tullahoma, died at a Nashville hospital Sunday. Mrs. Caldwell, who has been president of the Tennessee Federation of Women's Clubs had been superintendent of the school seven years. She underwent an operation at the hospital about three weeks ago, and later contracted pneumonia. As president of the Tennessee Federation of Women's Clubs, Mrs. Caldwell interested Tennessee women in the institution at Tullahoma and a tablet in the hospital there is dedicated to her memory.

JOE MARSHALL CAMPBELL was born in Bedford County on December 16, 1947 to Joe and Ida Campbell. He graduated from Central High School in Shelbyville, Tennessee in 1967. He attended Columbia Community College in Columbia until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, where he served 13 years. After an honorable discharge, he made his home in Murfreesboro, where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Nancy Barnett and uncle, Hurley Lanier, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Betty Anderson Campbell; mother, Ida Campbell; father,Joe Campbell; step-mother-in-law, Betty Johnson Anderson; children, Robin Anthony of Columbia, Tennessee, Nico, Donnie, and Ronnie Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky; devoted stepson, Charles(Nancy)Anderson of Nashville,TN; grandchildren, Whitley Burkeen, Jade Grady, Brittany, Deonta and Dominique Campbell, Jai-Lain and Kanesha Anderson; brothers, Ernest (Linda) of Shelbyville, Tennesee, Lafayette (Diana) of Nashville, Tennesee, Ronnie (Vickie), Ray Charles, Tony and Paul Campbell both of Shelbyville, Tennessee; aunts, Hazel (Dave) Rutland, Mamie Alexander, Theresa Hatcher, and Earlene(Joe) Sutton; five brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law, Clara (Bobby) Niece, Annie (James) Spann, Mattie (Mark) Tulloss, Catherine Patter, Brenda Anderson, Carolyn Murray, DeVon Anderson, Lonnie Anderson, James Johnson; Gloria Richards (mother of the children); very devoted friends, Jerry and Ruth Bain of Shelbyville, Tennessee; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

JOHN LOUIS CANNON - A fatal accident befel Mr. John L. Cannon near Singleton Sunday about 11 o'clock. He was looking for some hogs along the river bluff near his home and it is thought, leaned against a dead limb of a tree on the bluff and the limb breaking he lost his balance and fell from the bluff, a distance of 25 or 30 feet, breaking his right leg in two places and also his right arm though the concussion of the fall and jar of the nervous system and internal organs is supposed to have caused his death, which took place about 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Cannon's son-in-law, Mr. John Hammond, was not far away and heard the fall and has tening(?) to the place, had the injured man removed to the house and attended to promptly, but death followed as stated. Deceased was about 72 years old and was a brother of Mr. Taylor Cannon. Buried in New Hope Cemetery."

MARY (MOORE) CANNON , 73, widow of the late Taylor Cannon, died Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs. Bryan Foster and Rm. Foster about four miles from Shelbyville , near Deason. Mrs. Cannon was taken ill with influenza and developed pneumonia. She was sick about a week. The deceased was a member of a prominent pioneer Bedford County family and resided at Singleton until recent years she has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Foster. She had been a member of the Christian Church at Singleton since youth. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, rev. E. J. Barnett officiating. Interment was in Willow Mount cemetery. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Gladys Moore, Petersburg; Mrs. Jennie Roberts, Raus; two sons, Capt. Mike Cannon and Everette Cannon, Columbia and several grandchildren.

H.B. CARLISLE , a native of Beach Grove, but for may years a well known business man of Plano, Texas, died at his home last Friday morning a short time after he had been stricken at his place of business. He was a brother of Mrs. Will Ashley of this place.

EARL CARLTON , 86, of Rover, died Thursday morning at his home after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence Funeral Home, Chapel Hill, with the Rev. Ronnie Grooms, the Rev. Scotty Sorrells and the Rev. Mike Dugan officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Cothran Cemetery in Rover. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A native of Bedford County, he was the son of the late Clayton and Maggie Smotherman Carlton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, participating in the Normandy Invasion and many other campaigns in central Europe. He operated Carlton's General Store in Rover with his wife, Lavada, for over 60 years. He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, Rover Baptist Church and Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Donna Dugan, of Murfreesboro; a son, Steve Carlton, of Rover; a sister, Jean Glasscock, of Halls Mill; a brother, John Carlton Sr., of Shelbyville; five grandchildren and four great­grandchildren.

BYRON WAYNE CARTWRIGHT - Funeral services for Byron Wayne Cartwright age 88, of Shelbyville, who died this morning at Bedford County Medical Center, will be at 1;30 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cartwright and the Rev. Jon Bell will officiate and burial will follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. A native of Bedford County, he was the husband of the late Gladys Ann Wade Cartwright and the son of the late Jacob Thomas and Martha Jane Damron Cartwright. He served three years as a city building inspector, two and a half years as a city manager and two years as a mayor. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Cartwright Whiteside of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Ellen Love Warren of Knoxville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation with the family will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Funeral Home

CLYDE CLAXON , 24 died Tuesday Dec 29, 1936 at the Bedford County Hospital. Stricken with Pneumonia, he was unable to withstand the attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 o'clock at Hoover's Funeral Home. The body was laid to rest in Willow Mount cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Mellie Claxon, four brothers, Woodland, George, Fred and Alex Claxon and one sister Helen Claxon.

J.E. COLEMAN died June 27, 1935 at the home of his son, A.M. Coleman of Dallas, Texas, after an illness of six Months. Mr. Coleman was born in Bedford County June 19, 1854 and had lived here the greater part of his life. For many years he was successfully engaged in farming. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church, stood for the best in community life and was highly esteemed by those who knew him. He was quiet and unassuming in his manner and enjoyed a wide friendship. The remains accompanied by his son, A.M. Coleman, reached here Friday and were carried to the home of his niece, Mrs. Will Comstock were funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. T. Parsons, pastor of the M. E. church of Shelbyville. The burial was in the Coleman graveyard. He is survived by two sons, A.M. Coleman, Lancaster, Texas and Three grand children, Mrs. Gordon Shofner Jr. , Mrs. Tom Wall and Miss Maude Coleman of Dallas Texas. Honorary pallbearers: Dr. T. R. Ray, Eugene Hix, H. E. Williams, F. C. Bobo, Joe Hasty and H. C. Dixon. Active pallbearers: Will Anderson, Abb Temple, George Comstock, Gordon Shoffner Jr., Tom Wall and Ewing Damron

SUE (CLAXTON) COOP , 76, died at her home near Bell Buckle Friday morning following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Coop had been living in that community for a number of years and was loved and respected. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the residence with services conducted by the Rev. Clyde Gleaves, pastor of the Christian church, of which Mrs. Coop was a member. She is survived by her husband William Coop, and four sons and five daughters and several brothers.

WILLIAM R. COOP , 84, died Saturday afternoon at his home on the Fairfield Pike, near Bell Buckle. He was a prominent and well known citizen and a successful farmer and stock raiser. Although he had been ill for several weeks, he was improving, but sustained burns when his bed caught fire, and his death is regarded as due to injuries and shock of the accident. Mr. Coop was married to Miss Sue Claxton and they reared twelve children.

JULIA A. CRICK , 93, died Tuesday, Jan 17, 1939 at her home near Halls Mill. Funeral services were conducted at the Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, by Rev. W. H. Gentry, followed by burial in the Cothran cemetery. Mrs. Crick was one of the most highly esteemed and beloved citizens of her community and she will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. E. C. Carlton of Rover; two sons, J. E. Crick of Hall's Mill and W. T. Crick of Rover; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lamb of Nashville, and Mrs. Caroline Mincy of Unionville; 31 grandchildren; 145 great grandchildren and 60 great, great grandchildren.

MALISSA CROUCH - One of Bell Buckle's oldest and most highly esteemed women, Mrs. Malissa Thomas Crouch, 91 years of age, passed quietly away Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at her home there after several weeks illness. Mrs. Crouch, the widow of Z. T. Crouch Sr., Civil War Veteran, was a fine Christian character. She had lived a life of usefulness and purity, always a true, kind , kind and understanding friend and a loving and loyal wife and mother. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and spent many active years of service in this church as a true and loyal member. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence by Rev W. B. Taylor pastor of the Methodist Church, assisted by Elder C. E. Hawkins of Columbia. She was laid to rest beside her husband in Hazel cemetery. She was the mother of nine children. Surviving are two daughters, Misses Sadie and Addie Crouch; three sons, Will Crouch of Nashville, Joe and Z. T. Crouch, Jr., of Bell Buckle, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Besides these hosts of friends and relatives mourn her passing but cherish found memories of a life so beautifully lived as a God-fearing disciple who spread much happiness and sunshine in the pathway of life.

R.W. CROUCH - We regret to hear of the death of Mr. R. W. Couch near Wartrace a few days ago. Mr. Couch was 71 years of age, a member of the County Court, and one of Bedford County's influential citizens, and his death means the loss of a good man from our county.
