This old picture of the Flat Creek School about 1914 was given to Hart Hastings by his mother, Hazel Hart Hastings Thomas. Most of the names are supplied, but some of them have question marks after them. Many of these people are still living or will be well remember by many.

Third row Fourth row The old school building pictured had another room to the right. Mrs. Hazel Thomas said two more rooms were added later. Kelly Reagar Hix said the old school building was later made into a dwelling by Carl Frost where Horace D. McClenney now lives. The bell would ring for "blocks" at 8 o'clock. Hix said and there was a 10 minute recess at 10 o'clock and 30 minutes for "dinner" which was eaten from lunch boxes brought from home. "It was nourishing but nothing fancy". In the fall we filled our satchels with apples and pears.
Students came on foot, horseback, and in pony buggies and rode ponies. The animals were hitched outside to posts

Note from Judy - Knox Moore Hart, (born about 1905 - died 1953), was the son of James Wilkes and Lena (Moore) Hart. They lived in the house she grew up in at Flat Creek. The story is he died in the front part of the house. His wife Vesta Mae (Hudson) Hart was Judy's 5th grade school teacher at Flat Creek School.
