Robert Rushing

"Robert Rushing, known as "Robin", brother of Abel, was born 8 January 1799 in Anson County, North Carolina and died 27 June 1855 in Benton County, Tennessee. He married Lively Webb (who died 18 May 1868, aged 71 years). These dates come from tombstones in the Rushing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. On 19 April 1827, Robert sold to his brother Abel 40 acres for $160 on Rushing Creek, Humphreys County, 12th district, 5th section, second range. 'He came to that area in 1824. He had a large farming operation. Robin Rushing became mentally depressed and hanged himself in his carriage house, where he was found. (Mr. J. D. Melton, local histroy authority, related to the writer {meaning Mr. Hanes Eldridge Ayres, who was the original compiler of the information in this book} that his grandmother, Malissa Florence Cuff, lived near this family and remembered this melancholy event well).
