Deputy Swafford was shot and killed as he and several other deputies conducted
a raid on a still 15 miles south of Pikeville. One of the suspects opened fire, mortally wounding Deputy Swafford
as others returned fire, killing the suspect. The Sheriff was his Dad, who was also present on the raid
