Journal and Tribune SIXTEEN YEARS Dr. Lewis Griffin Will Probably Die in the Pen. Dr. Lewis Griffin, of Cleveland, one of the most prominent citizens of lower East Tennessee, will probably die in the penitentiary. He was sentenced to sixteen years, a short time ago, in the criminal court of Bradley County, for committing rape on the person of a sixteen year old girl. The supreme court affirmed the lower court yesterday. Dr. Griffin, who is a very old man, was in the court room, and the decision seemed to weigh heavily on his mind. It is a general opinion that he will not live to serve out his sentence.
