COUNTY TENNESSEE
Rice Road is located in the tenth district of Carroll County off the Browning Highway into the Macedonia Community. The Rices settled in this area before the Civil War. The first Rices known to move here
Jim and Sally Massey Rice coming from Orange County, NC. Their children were:
William (Billie) Franklin, Jimmie, Ibsane, Mary Jane and Martha. Billie (2-3-1860-2-2-1909) Rice m Martha (Patty) (4-17-1861-9-24-1947) Perry. Seven children: Virge W. (1881-1955); Ealy (Skin) (1883-1971); Odious (Ode) E. (10-25-1885-5-13-1965) William Reginal (2-16-1888-1-7-1965); Ollin, d age 2; Vernon Weaver (1893-1963); Essie, d age 14 (1896-1909).
These children established homes and farmed the land in this area. This farm became known as the Rice Brothers Farm and they raised large crops of cotton and tobacco. Virge m Ava Mizell. The family owned and operated Rice's Store for over 50 years. The store was a community gathering place and the grounds around the store provided a baseball field for the neighborhood. Teams traveled from miles around to play games with the boys from Rice's Store Community. Virge and Ava had 1 son, Collie. Ealy, nicknamed "Skin", a bachelor, lived in the Rice's Store Community at the old homeplace.
Ode m. Quincie (7-28-1888-1-21-1964) Brewer on 12-17-1911. They had one son James Buron (5-13-1919-12-11-1978) m Louise Lovett and lived in Huntingdon. They had two sons: James Ronald (2-20-1940) and Billy Wayne (8-28-1942). Reginal m Susie Green. They later moved to Hollow Rock and he served as Postmaster in Hollow Rock from 1929-1958. They had 1 daughter, Ernestine (1-7-1928) m James Russell Quinn and they had 2 daughters: Barbara (6-20-47) and Suzanne (11-13-1952).
Vernon m Ruby Green and they had no children.
