Otto attended one-teacher schools in the Natchez Trace Area, then graduated from Holladay High School in 1932. He attended Bethel College in McKenzie, then taught at Halls and Buena Vista Schools in Carroll Co. In 1939, he contracted T. B. and spent two years in bed as that was the prescribed treatment for the disease at that time. After recovering he worked in Charles Department Store and National Store in Paris. August 5, 1943, he m. Louise Call, whom he had met at Bethel College. She was teaching at Cottage Grove in Henry Co. He felt the urge to begin teaching again as his health had greatly improved. Dr. Roy Douglas stated that he was ready to reenter the classroom. He taught two years at Cochran Grove School in Henry Co. In 1946, he was transferred to Cottage Grove High School as Principal. He was a member of the Henry Co. Quarterly Court for 25 years. He received his B.S. Degree from Bethel College in McKenzie and his Master's Degree from Murray, KY. In 1951, he left Henry Co. to become principal at Clarksburg High School. It was a part of Carroll Co. School System, but later was formed into a Special School District. He became the first Superintendent of the South Carroll Co. Special School District and taught there thirteen years. July 7, 1960, he and his wife adopted two children, Sue and Donnie, who were brother and sister. Sue m. Dee Cross, and they have two daughters, Pam and Teresa. They are now living in Hernando, MS. Donnie and his live in Dyersburg, TN. In 1964, Otto and his family moved back to Cottage Grove. He was principal of Cottage Grove High School from time until his death 7 November 1972, from a heart attack. His wife still resides there. Excerpt from Carroll County TN Vol. 1 1987
