Will of Sowell Barham
Sally (Jackson) Plata / William "Bill" Jackson

W. Harman McGee and David Evans do state that the noncupative will of Sowell Barham was made by him on the twenty seventh day of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty six in our presents to which we ware spcially requested to bear witness by the testator himself in the presence of each other that it was made in his last sickness in his own dwelling house and the same is as follows to wit It is his will and desire that his effects should be disposed of after his decease in the following manner 1st That all his just debts should be paid 2nd Secondly that his son John Barham should have the black mule and three hundred dollars in money 3rd Thridly that his beloved wife Jane Barham should have the balance of his effects during her natural life and after the death of my beloved wife Jane Barham it is my will that all my effects left by my said wife Jane Barham that the same be equally divided between all my children made out by us and signed this the 8th day of July 1856.

Some of My family “the Barhams” were also in Gibson County and the Barhams, Aslins Jackson’s and Magee’s intermarried.

We had several Barham’s /Magee’s die in Carrol County / Gibson County , Tenn. Also many married in Gibson, County.

Sowell Barham b 1807 Stokes Co d 1856 in Carroll County , Tenn. m Jane Patterson Nov. 07, 1828 Stokes County NC she d 1864 Stoddard County .

Sowell Barham’s daughter Ann b Aug.04, 1830 NC m June 03, 1850 Gibson County, Tenn (her cousin) David Jackson Aslin b March 1822 NC They lived in Carroll County until her father died and immigrated to Stoddard County, Mo.

Sowell and Jane Barham’s son John Patterson Barham m Dec. 16, 1858 in Carroll County, Tenn Mary Elizabeth Dwiggins b March 21, 1840 d 12-30, 1873 in childbirth in Bloomfield, Mo. She was the daughter of Robert and Martha (McElwrath) Dwiggins. They had 1 daughter, Myra Ann Barham who was 4 years old when Mary Elizabeth Dwiggins died. Myra Ann (Barham) b June 28, 1869 Stoddard Co. Mo m John Andrew Magee b Sept.22,1865 Stokes County NC whose parents were Juvanda Linville and Issac Magee from Stokes County, NC.)
