FREDA BELL (ROSS) O'NEAL - Freda Bell Ross was born December 22, 1925 in Henderson County, the only child of the late Virgil E. and Ollie Taylor Ross. Freda was raised on their Center Point farm in Chester County. She attended Chester County schools and graduated from Freed-Hardeman College with a teaching degree. She taught at the Roby School house. She left teaching after marrying John S. O'Neal Jr. (Sammie) in 1948. They were married in Corinth, MS. They made their home in Chester County with their three daughters. She was a full time homemaker until all three girls were attending school. She worked at Chester County Manufacturing until it closed and worked as a CNA at The Chester County Nursing Home until her retirement. Spending time with and taking care of her family and attending church was a very important part of her life. She also enjoyed gardening,cooking, sewing and always had a love for animals. She was a member of the Pinson Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2002. She is survived by three daughters, Judy Young (Jerry), Jan Rhoden, and Ann Harris all of Henderson, TN; three grandchildren, Rhonda Frye (Keith) of Henderson, TN, Roxanne Rhoden of Memphis, TN and Richard Casey Rhoden of Henderson, TN; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Frye, Jana Frye, Seth Frye and Charles Brentley Rhoden all of Henderson, TN and a great-great-grandchild, Eli Samuel Lee Smith. Services were held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors-Johnson Chapel in Henderson, Tennessee, with Bro. Don Taylor officiating. HERMIE (VIRES) O'NEAL was born January 26, 1923 in McNairy County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Mary Lou Arkie Barham O'Neal. She was united in marriage to J. H. O'Neal on September 27, 1942. Mr. O'Neal preceded her in death on January 31, 1993.

Mrs. O'Neal was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was known as an exceptional cook and seamstress. Mrs. O'Neal departed this life on September 9, 2006 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 83 Years, 7 Months, 14 Days. She is survived by two sons:James Larry O'Neal of New York, New York and Gary O'Neal of Enville, Tennessee; and a sister, Wanna Mae Dillard of Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. O'Neal was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas Anthony (Doug) O'Neal who died on September 3, 1991. (Shackleford Funeral Directors)
