J.D. WHITMAN
, 89, of Henderson died April 29, 2006, at Chester County Healthcare. Funeral services were held May 1 at Casey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Whitman officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery. He was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Nathan Edd and Maudie Mosier Whitman. He attended school at Phillips Schoolhouse in Chester County and he farmed and worked in the timber business. He was Baptist in belief. He is survived by three brothers, Cleatus Whitman and Herbert Whitman, both of Henderson, and S.L. Whitman of Bolivar, and three sisters, Gladys Fry and Ruby Horn, both of Henderson, and Betty Ricketts of Pinson.
JOHN L. WILKINS
- Services for John Wilkins, 85, were held Saturday at Mifflin Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin Dyer and Weldon DePriest officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Leon Johnson and Son Funeral Home of Henderson in charge. Mr. Wilkins, a retired farmer, died late Thursday night at Jackson Hospital after a long illness. He was a Henderson County native and married in 1928 to the former Rosa Harston, who survives. He was a member of the Luray Baptist Church. Also surviving are three daughters Mrs. Juanita Alexander of St. Louis MO; Mrs. Margaret Dickson and Mrs. Miller Buckley, both of Luray; a son, Charlie of Luray; two sisters, Mrs. Janie Hubbard of Luray and Mrs. Eula Rolett of Searcy AR; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
ROSA B. (HARSTON) WILKINS
- Services for Mrs. Rosa Wilkins were Friday, Nov. 10, 1995 at Leon Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Kolwick and Jeff Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Mifflin Cemetery with Leon Johnson and Son Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Wilkins, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Jackson Hospital. She was the widow of John Wilkins, a retired employee ofMilan Arsenal and a Baptist. She leaves three daughters, Juanita Alexander and Margaret Dickson, both of Lexington and Mllie Buckley of Luray; a son, Charlie Wilkins of Huron; a brother, Johnny Harston of Jackson, nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
CHARLES RAY WILKINSON
- Services for Charles Ray Wilkinson were Sunday May 5, 1996 at Unity Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Wilkinson, who was 57, died Friday May 3, 1996 at his home in Lexington. He was a maintenance employee at Decatur County Nursing Home. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sarah Wilkinson of Lexington; two daughters, Cindy Roach of Starr S.C. and Beth Tulley of Lexington; two stepsons, Jeff Burkeen of Jackson and Trevin Burkeen of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Kim Quick of Waterford, MI; his mother Mrs. Lois Wilkinson of Lexington; a brother Ricky ofLexington; a sister, Betty Threadgill of Lexington and six grandchildren.
ERNIE RAY WILKINSON
- Services for Ernie Ray Wilkinson were Sunday at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Nolen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Wilkinson, who was 80, died Saturday at Methodist Hospital of Lexington. He was head of Unity Cemetery Assoc. and a Baptist. He was a retired Salant and Salant employee. He leaves his wife, Lois Patterson Wilkinson of Lexington; a daughter Mrs. Betty Threadgill of Lexington; two sons, Charles Ray Wilkinson and Ricky Wilkinson, both of Lexington; a sister Mrs. Maybelle Cawthon of Lexington; a brother Johnny of Lexington, and four grandchildren.
FAUSTINE OPHELIA WILLIAMS
- Services for Mrs. Faustine Ophelia Williams will be today July 16, 1997 at 2 p.m. at R.L.D.S. of Jesus Christ, Jacks Creek. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Williams, 77, died Monday July 14, 1997 at Jackson Hospital. SHe was a homemaker. She leaves her husband, Earl Williams of Reagan; two brothers, Clinton Beecham of Lexington and James Beecham of Huron; a sister, Cordia Tucker of Jacks Creek.
LUCAS RAY WILLIAMS
- Services for Lucas Ray Williams were Tuesday October 24, 2000 at First Baptist Church Lexington. Burial was in Mifflin Baptist Church Cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Williams who was 18, died Sunday October 22, 2000 at Lexington Methodist Hospital of injuries from an auto accident. He was a former production worker and full time student. He leaves his parents Carlton and Peggy Williams of Huron; a sister Lisa Williams of Huron; grandparents Bernice Lodes of Lexington and Carl and Lexie Williams of Huron.
WILLIE ROBERT WILLIAMS
- Services for Willie Robert Williams were Thursday at Enville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Davis officiating. Burial was in Milledgeville Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Williams, 77, died Tuesday morning at Baptist Hospital. He was an auto, tractor-trailer and small-engine mechanic and had served as mayor of Enville. He was a Baptist. He leaves his wife, Flora M. Williams of Sardis; a son Jerry of Saltillo; two daughters, Mrs. Janus Doyle of Sardis and Mrs. Sherold Reid of Goodlettsville and six grandchildren. DONALD MEREDITH WILSON
, age 58, formerly of Henderson, died peacefully on Thursday, January, 30, 2003 after a long battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda (Naylor) Wilson; and daughter and son-in-law, Merideth and John Weeks of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, MiKayla, and John Nicholas; brothers, Charles Wilson of Augusta, GA, Travis Wilson of Vincennes, IN, and Mike Wilson of Nolensville, TN; sisters, Bernice Hunter of Phoenix, AZ, Jerry Earle of Houston, TX and June Spence of Texarkana, TX.
He is preceded in death by his father, Oliver Wilson; his mother, Robbie O. Smith; and by brothers, Oliver Wilson, Jr. and Troy Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a member of the National Guard Officer Association of Tennessee. He was employed by the Army National Guard for 35 years, attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four and was a personnel manager in Nashville, TN. He was a member of Old Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Remains will rest at Casey Funeral Home where family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, 2003 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday, February 3, 2003 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Hutcherson and COL (Ret) Hoyte Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Old Friendship Cemetery. (Decatur Chronicle)
HUGH WHITSON WILSON
, son of the late Whit Harris Wilson and Martha Johnson Wilson, was born in Mifflin on September 1, 1863 and died at his home near Jacks Creek in Chester County July 24, 1942. He moved from the vicinity of Huron to Chester County about 20 years ago. Mr. Wilson was married to Miss Jennie Winslow on January 20, 1891. To them were born four children, Thomas Laster, who died in infancy, Octoer 10, 1894, James Andy, who died in young manhood, April, who died April 6, 1914 and Mrs. Alice Wilson Bailey, who survives. He is also survived by his widow, one sister, Mrs. Florence Wilson McAdams of Henderson, and one brother, William Ernest Wilson of Monette Arkansas. He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bethel in 1903. He was a diligent, accomodating neighbor, a kind and provident husband, father and grandfather, and a strictly moral Christian gentleman. Funeral services were conducted at Unity Church July 25, 1942, by Rev. A.U. Nunnery with interment in Unity Cemetery. CARRIE NELL (ROSS) WINGATE
- Services for Mrs. Carrie Nell Wingate were Friday at Casey Funeral Home with burial in Chester County Memory Gardens. Mrs. WIngate who was 62, died Thursday morning at Jackson Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Chester Conty and was employed by Salant and Salant in Henderson for more than 33 years. She was a Baptist. She leaves a son, William Glynn Allen ofHenderson; three brothers, James Ross of Reagan, Otral Ross ofJacks Creek and Bernard Ross of Scotts Hill; four sisters, Mrs. Jessie Woods, Mrs. Cordelia Lyles, both of Jacks Creek, Mrs. Ophelia Young of Alamo and Miss Edna Ross of Enville and two grandchildren.
MARY (JONES) WOODS
- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jones Woods age 84, will be Sunday from the Chapel of Leon Johnson Funeral Home with Elder Elmer Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in the Unity Cemetery near Jacks Creek. Mrs. Woods died Thursday at the Van Ayers Manor Skilled Nursing Facility in Martin TN. She was born in Chester County daughter of the late Miles and Amy Reid Jones. She attended school in Chester County and served in the Womens Auxiliary Army Corp for 2 years. She was married to Paul Woods in 1943. She is survived by her husband Mr. Paul Woods of Henderson; a daughter Mrs. Martha Lee Lacy of Martin TN and one son, Donald Reid Woods of Maryville TN; a sister Mrs. Ruth Rhodes of Henderson and one brother Clyde Jones of Seneca KS; grandchildren, Mike Lacy, Jenny Graves, Julie Lacy, Tracy Woods, Jessica Woods, Amy Woods and five great grandchildren.
WORTH WRIGHT
- Services for Worth Wright 62, were held Thursday at Casey Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Burial was in Unity Cemetery. Mr. Wright, a self-employed salesman, died Wednesday morning at Jackson Hospital after a six week illness. He was born in the Center Hill community of Henderson County, son of the late John Wylie and Flora Taylor Wright, attended Sheppard School, farmed as a young man, and in 1949 was married to the former Ruby Nobles who survives. Mr. Wright had worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Blue Plate Foods and Northern Gas Co. before becoming self-employed. He was a Baptist. Also surviving are a son, Nathan Wright of Henderson; a daughter Mrs. LaTasha Phillips of Jacks Creek; five brothers, Norman Wright, Herman Wright and Earl Wright all of Reagan; Travis and Curtis Wright, both of Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Delta Sheppard and Mrs. Nell Keen, both of Reagan, Mrs. Jewell Tyler of Lexington and Mrs. Annie Lyons of Jackson and two grandaughters.
JIMMY WYATT
- Services for Jimmy Wyatt were Tuesday at Leon Johnson and Son Funeral Home with burial in Owens Cemetery in Chester County. Mr. Wyatt, 54, died Sunday at Jackson General Hospital of injuries received in a fire. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He leaves three daughters, Ms. Peggy Sue Wyatt, Ms. Coleen Wyatt, both of Clovis NM and Ms. Renee Wyatt of Corpus Christi TX; his mother Mrs Gavin Wyatt of Beech Bluff; three sisters, Mrs. Barabara Holloway, Mrs. Katherine Conners, both of Beech Bluff and Mrs. Linda Strawbridge of Jackson; six brothers, Billy Wyatt of Jackson, Eddie, Jerry both of Beech Bluff, Larry of Henderson, Douglass of Albany GA and Gavin Jr. of Huron.
ROBERT WYLIE, JR.
, age 67, a retired owner and operator of Electric Supply and Motor Shop died at his home Tuesday Oct. 17, 2000 of a gunshot wound. Mr. Wylie was born in Boulton TN., in Shelby County son of the late Robert and Sarah Home Wylie. He grew up in Burnswick TN in Shelby County. He graduated Bolton High School and was an all star Basketball and Baseball player in Shelby County. He was employed by Ford Motor for two years, prior to entering the service in 1953. Mr. Wylie served overseas during the Korean War. He was in the US Army and was discharged in 1955. After returning from the service he was married to Lequita Pickett in 1957. He worked as an agent for Life and Georgia Insurance Co. and owned and operated a Service Station in Ellendale TN. He moved to Forrest City AR in 1959 and established Bob's Electric Motor Shop in 1965. He opened an additional shop. The Tri County Supply Co., in Forrest City AR. He opened additional stores in West Helena AR in 1970, Wynn AR in 1974 and Batesville AR in 1994. Mr. Wylie semi-retired in 1995 and moved to Lexington TN on Piney Lake where he enjoyed fishing and spending time on his farm in Chester County. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Memphis and AR. After returning to TN he attended Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a School Board Member of Forrest Academy in Forrest City AR for fifteen years and also served as Trustee for the School. Mr. Wylie received many Service Awards from General Motor Division for Innovations Services he performed. He was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2000 and this contributed to the cause of his death. He was survived by wife, Lequita Pickett Wylie of Lexington; two daughters Anita Todd and husband Kenneth Todd of Batesville AR and Patricia Stave and husband, Craig Stave of Batesville AR. Mr. Wylie was preceded in death by one infant son, Robert Michael Wylie in 1961. He leaves two grandsons Tyson Todd and McKenzie Stave both of Batesville AR and two granddaughters Kristi Todd and Madison Stave, both of Batesville AR; a sister Anne Monette Goodman of Bartlett TN; one brother Louis Wylie of Destin FL. Services will be at Chapel of Leon Johnson Funeral with Rev. Bobby Cupples officiating and burial in Sweetlips Cemetery in Chester County. Pallbearers to serve will be W.C. McCain, Bill Rice, Bill Everhart, Richard Brady, Chuck Forrester, Jack Roath, Gene McCain and Glen Weston.
