CLAIBORNE COUNTY, TENNESSEE Will Book, Volume 2

Will of ALFRED CORBIN, deceased State of Tennessee, Claiborne County, July 26th 1853. It is my last will and testament that my wife Elizabeth Corbin, shall have the houses, together with all the household and kitchen furniture, and all my farming tools and land enough to make a decent support for her and the children that remain with her, to have and to hold altogether as heretofore, her natural lifetime, her lifetime or widowhood; also the cows and hogs, except five shoats. I give to my son William, the little red oxen. I want them kept for her use and the use of the family. It is also my will that they do sell the large oxen or the gray colt which they may think best, and the proceeds to go to paying debts, the remainder, if any, to go to my wife for the use of her little children remaining with her. If the oxen or colt fail to pay my debts, I want them to sell enough of the hogs when fattened to finish paying all the debts, and the remainder of the hogs, to help to raise the children.

It is my will that my son William W. Corbin, Alvis C. Corbin, George C. Corbin, Sterling G. Corbin, shall have my land equally divided among them, and that Sterling shall have his portion laid off so as to include all the buildings. And I want the boys to pay to their sisters, the following amount.

To Hetty Ann, eighty dollars money or property, which they may agree upon when she arrived to the age of twenty-one years, and to Martha Eliza, one hundred dollars in money or property, which may be agreed upon when she arrives to the age of twenty-one years.

To Franky Adaline, one hundred dollars in money or property, which may be agreed upon when she comes to the age of twenty-one years, and the boys shall pay each and equal portion of the above named amounts to the girls. Also, I want my wife to have my sheep for the use of the family, and the present crop to be gathered and used in the family as in my lifetime, and if in case there should be another heir born, he shall have an equal share with the other boys, and shall be exempt from paying any of the above named amounts to the girls. If a daughter, it shall have an equal share with the girls. And if in case the little girls should be left by the death or marriage of their mother, they shall not be turned off from their houses while single. It is my will that they shall live with Sterling. William W. Corbin shall attend to the execution of this my last will and testament, and to the sales of the oven and grey colt. And Sterling, and all my debts paid, and that this matter shall have the remainder for the use of the children. Test: Daniel Borsenbaum Alfred Corbin Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint Alvis P.
