David Huddleston

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, TENNESSEE Will Book, Volume 1

Will of DAVID HUDDLESTON, deceased I, David Huddleston, having on the 29th day of September 1846, by deed conveyed to my daughter Phebe A. Thompson, wife of James A. Thompson, a life estate in tract for the support of herself and children, a negro or mulatto girl named Caroline, with remainder in said slave to the children of the said Phebe. Now, if said girl Caroline shall not be worth as much as my daughter Phebe’s equitable part of my estate, then my Administrator or Administrators are to make it up to her so as to make her equal with the balance of my heirs. And if the girl should prove to be more than my daughter Phebe’s equal portion, then she is to account to my Administrators for the same, that is for the overplus that said girl may be worth more than my daughter Phebe’s equal portion, with the rest of my heirs. I, this day, destroy a will that I made on the 2nd day of July 1846, leaving none other will than this that all my children shall share equally of the portion that God has blest me with, I having this day made a trust deed to W. B. Huddleston securing the black girl Eliza, which I derived from my father-in-law, John Condly, to my wife Gemima, and the children of her body. And I hereby request that my heirs may not quarrel and low over what little portion God has blest me with. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and seal this 15th November 1847. There is nothing in this intended to debar my beloved wife Gemima from her lawful portion of my estate during her life. Test: William (X) Killion Neil Southern David (X) Huddleston
