Robert Akin
Robert J. Akin was born March 9, 1828, in Decatur Co (then Perry) to William V. and Edna Akin. His father, William, had been born in South Carolina and came to Maury County Tennessee in 1801, where he married in 1816. Robert was the 8th of 11 children. He engaged in farming, boating staves to New Orleans, and blacksmithing. March 28, 1860, he married Susan T. Hancock of Decatur County. Robert enlisted in the Tenth Tennessee Cavalry under Col. Cox at the time of the Civil War. He was a member of the Methodist church, a Mason, and a Democrat.

House, 47th General Assembly, 1891-93; representing counties of Decatur, Lewis and Perry; Democrat, Born Jan., 1, 1838, in portion of Perry County later included in Decatur; son of W.V. and Margaret Akin. Attended "common schools". Married, date and place not indicated to Leantine L. Hancock - said to have had three children James, born c.1869, names of otheres not found. Farmer; owner of gristmill and general store at Bath Springs in llth Civil District of Decatur. In cofederate army - enrolled in Henderson County Dec. 23, 1861 1st Lt., Co. E, 51st Tenn. Inf.; honorably discharged April 23, 1962. Member of Methodist Episcopal Church for and gave land for site of present church; superintendent of Sunday School; member Free and Accepted Masons; Farmers Alliance; of Co-laborers Union. Date of death and place of under determined.
