JAMES A. ENGLAND
James A. England was a native of Henderson County, born February 6, 1851, son of John M. and Rebecca (Hanna) England of Henderson County. The father was a physician of Henderson County until 1862, when he moved to Williamson County, IL, where he died in 1863. The mother was of Irish descent. A. R. England, the grandfather, was born in NC, his father was a native of Ireland. In 1866, the family of John M. moved to Henderson County, from Illinois, but went to Hunt County , TX, in 1873, where our subject went 3 years before. In 1875, James A. came back to TN. He began practicing law in March, 1877 in Decatur County. May 8, 1879, he married Mary A. Stout, daughter of William Stout of Decatur County. To the marriage were born at least 2 children: Nellie J.K. and James S. James A. was a Democrat and was appointed clerk and master of Chancery court in September, 1879.
