A.D. Graves to George W. Graves

Decatur County, Tennessee Deeds Book 7, page 224 1873

This Indenture made the 24th day of December 1873 Between A.D. Graves and Safrona Graves of the one part and George W. Graves Sr. of the other part both of the County of Decatur and State of Tennessee Witnesseth that the Said A.D. Graves in consideration of the Sum of five hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by the Said George W. Graves Sr. the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and Sold and by these presents Doth transfer and convey to the Said George W. Graves Sr. his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land Containing one hundred and ?? acres more or less Situated and lying in the county aforesaid on the waters of Buck River in the 7th civil District of Said county and bounded as follows towit Beginning on a white oak ten poles South of the South east Corner of one hundred and 15 acres in the name of Jonathan Nix (?) Runs thence East 36 poles to a Stake and pointers on the Decaturville Road thence north 10 poles to a Stake and pointers thence East 88 poles to a Small white oak and thence South 68 poles to a Buck River thence up the meanders of Said River 300 poles to the old bengraves ford thence north 34 poles to the Beginning containing one hundred acres the buts and bounds be the Same more or less To have and to hold the Said Tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances estate title and interest thereunto belonging to him the Said George W. Graves Sr. his heirs and assigns forever and the Said A.D. Graves doth hereby covenant with the Said George W. Graves Sr. his heirs and assigns that he has a good Right to convey the Same and that the Same is unencumbered and the Said A.D. Graves Doth further covenant and Bind himself his heirs and Representatives to warrant and forever Defend the title to Said Land to the Said George W. Graves his heirs and assigns against the lawful Claims of all persons whomsoever in testimony whereof I have Set my hand and Seal on this 27th day of December 1873

State of Tennessee - Personally appeared before me John McMillan Clerk of the County Court of Said county A.D. Graves the Bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted who acknowledged that he executed the foregoing Deed for the purpose therein contained on the day it bears date Also personally appeared before me S.C. Graves wife of Said A.D. Graves having appeared before me privately and apart from her said husband Acknowlledged the execution of the foregoing Deed to have been made by her freely voluntarily and understandingly without compultion or constraint from her said husband and for the purposes therein contained given under my hand at office on this 4th day of April 1874
John McMillan Clerk State of Tennessee Register office April the 23rd 1874 at 1 Oclock P.M. then was the foregoing Deed duly Recorded in Record Book No. 7 on page 224 noted in Note Book E on page 2

A.D. Graves & Wife to C.C. Herndon


Decatur County, Tennessee Deeds Book 7, page 237 1874

We A.D. Graves and Caroline Graves have this day Bargained and Sold and do hereby transfer and Convey unto Charles C. Herndon heirs and assigns for the Consideration of one hundred and fifty Dollars in hand paid the Receipt of which is herewith acknowledged a tract or piece of land in Decatur County State of Tennessee as follows Beginning on the north bank of beech river where C.C. Herndons East boundary line crosses Said River runs north with Said line 74 poles to his South Boundry line thence East with Said line 64 poles to a black gum thence South 48 poles to a gum and black oak pointer on the north bank of beech river thence South up Said river with its meanders to the Beginning Containing by estimation twenty five acres more or less To have and to hold to the Said C.C. Herndon his heirs and assigns forever and we covenant and agree to and with the Said C.C. Herndon that we are lawfully Seized and possessed of Said Land have a good Right to Convey it and that the Same is unencumbered We further covenant and agree and bind our heirs and Representatives to Warrant and forever defend the title to the Said Land to the Said C.C. Herndon his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever Witness our hands and Seals this 30th day of May 1874

Graves and wife the Bargainers with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that they Executed the foregoing deed for the purposes therein contained and S.C. Graves wife of Said A.D. Graves having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband acknowledged the execution of Said deed to have been made by her freely voluntarily and understandingly without compultion or Constraint from her Said husband and for the purposes therein contained Witness my hand at office this the 11th day of July 1874 John McMillan Clerk

J.W. Graves & Wife to W.G. Rains

Decatur County, Tennessee Deeds Book 8, p. 52 1877

This indenture made this 31st day of July 1877 between James M. Graves and wife M.N. Graves of the one part and William G. Rains of the other part both parties of the county of Decatur and State of Tennessee Witnesseth that the Said James M. Graves and wife M.N. Graves in consideration of the Sum of three hundred and fifty dollars to us in hand paid by W.G. Rains the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and Sold and by these presents doth transfer and convey unto the Said W.G. Rains his heirs and assigns an undivided interest in the following tract of land it being one Sixth interest certain parcels of land containing Six hundred acres more or less Situated and lying in the county of Decatur and State of Tennessee on the waters of beech river in the 4th and Sixth Civil Districts Beginning 8 poles east from the South east corner of entry No for 6 acres in the name of Charles Almon it being the Same where the mill was Standing and that H.C. Fryar Sold to J.O. Roberts & Co. runs thence west 10 degrees South 25 poles to a Stake in the field thence north 10 degrees west 12 poles to a Stake ... poles South ... the South bank of Beech River runs thence west 20 degrees north 85 poles to a Stake and beech pointers thence west 25 poles to a Stake thence west 20 degrees South 82 poles to a beech standing on the bank of turkey creek thence north ... poles to beech River crossing the Same in all 8 poles to the South Boundary line of entry No. 72 in the name of W.C. Fryar and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a Stake with beech dogwood and sweet gum pointers 71 poles South of the north East corner of James Johnsons 100 acre entry No 1132 Runs thence with Said line 106 poles to the South East corner of the Same thence East 116 poles to a large hickory corner of George Graves 160 acre Survey thence north 30 poles to a corner thence 62 poles to the South west corner of said Graves 150 acre Survey thence north 136 poles to the north west corner of the Same thence west 48 poles to a Stake on the East boundry line of entry No. 2332 thence South 43 poles to a Stake and black oak pointers thence west 130 poles to the Beginning Also one other tract bounded as follows towit Beginning at a hickory the north west corner of an entry in the name of Eliga Rushing Runs South 44 poles to a Small black oak thence west down a certain hollar to the mill road thence north with Said Road to the line of the Six acre mill Tract thence with Said line So as to make 44 poles from where it Strikes Said road to a Stake in Said Six acre line thence East 30 Poles to the Beginning Also one other tract Beginning at the north west corner of a ninty Six acre entry in the name of Eliga Rushing it being a part of the Same Runs thence East 56 poles to a small hickory thence South 76 poles to a reserve entry No for 100 acres in the name of John Davis thence west 25 degrees north 80 poles to a white oak thence north to the Beginning Also another tract bounded as follows to wit Beginning 50 yards below the Roberts mill place on beech river Runs East 10 poles thence South 20 poles thence East 150 poles to John McMillans line thence north 44 poles to beech River thence up Said River with its meanderings to the Beginning To have and to hold the Said tract or paracels of land with its appurtenances estates and interest thereunto belonging to him the Said W.G. Rains his heirs and assigns forever and the Said James M. Graves and wife M.N. Graves Doth hereby covenant with the Said W.G. Rains his heirs and assigns that we are lawfully Seized and possessed of Said Sixth interest of Said land in fee simple and that they have a good Right to convey the Same and that the Same is unencumbered and the Said James M.
