Perhaps no other state was more divided over the Civil War than Tennessee. Decatur County was equally as divided in opinion, sentiment and military service. On the vote of the question of "separation" or "no separation" there were cast 310 votes for "separation" and 558 votes for "no separation". The picture shows a gathering of reunion of the "old soldiers" from Decatur County who served with the Union Army. Those in the picture have been identified from left to right as:

1. Pont Lyles
2. Allan Elvington, Union Marker, Bunches Chapel Cemetery
3. Isaac Hays (Tom Hays father) Bear Creek Cemetery
4. John H. Jennings, Jennings Cemetery (near Crossroads cemetery)
5. Huse (Houston) Fowler, Crossroads Cemetery (no record)
6. John Hays
7. Unknown
8. B.F. Parlow, Union Marker, Mt. Tabor Cemetery
9. Dr. Edmon D. Bostic, Union Marker, Parsons Cemetery
10. Alex Adair
11.(Henry) Harrison Rains, Parsons Cemetery
12. J.W. Adair, Union Marker, Adair Cem. (near Mt. Tabor)
13. Unknown - 14. Unknown

It is believed that the picture was made about 1902 in Parson. The 45 star flag was correct from January 4, 1896, when Utah became the 45th state, until November 16, 1907 when Oklahoma became the 46th state. From my personal observations I believe the picture was made near the intersection of West Second Street and South Tennessee Avenue looking southwest.

I have information from a reliable source that there was another picture of Union Veterans in uniform and displaying a drum with a picture of a crowing rooster on it with some type slogan. Can you help us? We would like to have any pictures of Civil ar Veterans.
