Born July 3, 1944. Enlisted in the US ARMY, 1st Engr. July 22, 1964. Military locations, stations were Jacksonville FL; Ft. Gordon GA: Ft. Leonard Wood MO; and Ft. Riley KS. Discharged June 22, 1966 with rank of E4.
Awarded the Vietnam service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Natl. Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Award (rifle K-14).
Married to Kathy and has three children, two stepchildren, one deceased; Brent Austin, Glynn Adkins, Donna Burton, Kathy Wood and Shanna Austin; and nine grandchildren. Son of the late Clarence Adkins (Scotts Hill TN) and Margaret Manning (Jesup, GA). He is currently a truck driver and resides in Decaturville TN.

USAIS; HHC, 2nd Bn., 81st Armd. Regt., 1st Armd. Div, (Old Ironsides); 501st Ag. Admin. Co.; and 465th Avn. Det., 30th Separate Armd. Bde., TNARNG. Honorably discharged July 27, 1968, with rank of E-6 staff sergeant. Awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge (first award), Senior Aviation Crewmember Badge, Expert Rifle/Grenade Badge. TN'NG Volunteer Ribbon. Presidential Unit Citation. state of Tennessee Governor's Meritorious Unit Citation w/Bronze OLC and TNNG Volunteer Recruiting and Retention Unit Citation. Specialties included indirect fire support specialist, personnel administration specialist, observation helicopter crewmember and utility helicopter repair (technical inspector). Countries served in were Straubing Germany, June 1959-April 1962; Okinawa Japan, July 1962-August 1965; An Khe Republic of Vietnam (combat tour), Jan. 1966-Jan 1967; and CONUS Feb. 1967-Jul 1968. He is the son of A.C. and Merrily Mae Austin. he married Linda Kay (Barker) austin and has one son, Spec. 4 Bradley Ray Austin (member of Co B 230th Engr. Bn. Huntington TN, 194th Engr. Bde.) and two daughters, Lisa Cheree Austin Fall and Amy Lynn Austin Wilson.

ERNEST E. AUSTIN, born Jan. 26, 1925. Servied in the USN and USAF from June 1947-March 1, 1967. Served as a fire fighter in the USAF. Countries served in were Okinawa and Saigon, South Vietnam. Discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. Battles in which he participated included WW II, Korean, Vietnam and invasion of Okinawa. The "Alpine" earned four Battle Stars. The transport ship was hit with a kamikaze plane in Okinawa. Ernest was on it when it earned the fourth and final Battle star. Ernest passed away Oct. 26, 1993. He was the son of Albert Curt and Mae Austin. Married Monico and had three children: Jimmy Angela and Dwight. Sumbitted by Dwight Austin
