Mortuary was in charge. Mr. Baker, 101, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at Westwood Manor ofheart failure. He was a carpenter. He leaves a son, Thomas D. of Parsons; three daughters, Aletha Oakley of Pekin IL, Nellie Faye Milne of Phoenixville PA and Sarah E. Baker of Cotati CA; a sister, Nona Jones of Parsons, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

- Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8 for retired Kaddis Manufacturing plant manager Thomas D. Baker, 69, of Parsons. Services for Thomas D. Baker, 69, will be held Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Stanford officiating. Burial will follow at Jeanette Cemetery. Mr. Baker died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Decatur County General Hospital after a long illness. A life-long resident of Decatur County, Mr. Baker was born November 30, 1933 to Fred and Grace Houston Baker, both deceased. He attended Parsons High School, where he was selected as a running back to the Volunteer Conference All-Star Football Team his senior year. Mr. Baker served in the US Air Force and attended the University of Tennessee, Martin. Following college, his employment included work for Hayes Aircraft Company in Birmingham, Alabama as an aircraft engine mechanic. He worked briefly for McDonnell Aircraft Company in St. Louis before returning to Hayes as a technical writer of aircraft maintenance manuals. In 1959, he began employment at Kaddis Manufacturing Company in Parsons as a machinist. Later, he completed a degree in Industrial Management at Jackson State Community College, and in 1977 was promoted to plant manager for Kaddis, a position he maintained until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years, and active in the Parsons Lions Club, serving as president in 1988-89.
He is survived by his wife, Vonelle; daughter, Katrina Carrington and husband Patrick of Jackson, Tennessee; and son, Lance Baker and wife Sherry, of Clarksville. Grandchildren are Ellen Carrington, Brad Carrington, Amber Baker, and Will Baker. Sisters are Aletha Oakley of Pekin, Illinois; Nellie B. Milne of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and Sarah Baker of San Francisco, California. Nieces are Pamela Milne, Cindy Schneider, Sheera DeGroot and Rebecca Milne. Nephews are Greg Oakley, Jeff Oakley and Scott Milne. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Carrington, Tony Taylor, Steve Todd, Collins Pratt, Ray Morris and Tommy Doyle. The family requests that Honorary Pallbearers be employees of Kaddis Manufacturing Company.

- Services for Jack P. Ballard were Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery with Parsons Mortuary in charge. Mr. Ballard, 59, died Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Memphis of injuries sustained in an accident of Oct. 19, 1966 in which his wife was killed. He leaves three sons, Lawrence, Joe and Johnny all of Decaturville; five daughters, Mrs. Hazel Gilbert of Lexington, Mrs. Martha Overton, Mrs. Jimmy Moody, both of Scotts Hill, Mrs. Minnie Pearl Moody of Steele MO and Mrs. Sizie Teague of Decaturville; and two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Jackson of Decaturville and Mrs. Mittie Moody of Steele MO.

Parsons Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. She was born on July 22, 1929 in Decatur County, to the late Farris and Mamie Austin. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Barnickle; a daughter, Kerry Jane Barnickle; one sister, Rose Farley; and one brother, Dewayne Austin. “Mama Jo” was deeply loved by her surviving family members; one daughter, Terry Jean (Willie) Smith of Parsons; one son, Larry J. He was born August 7, 1925 in Decatur County to the late Samuel H. and Maggie A. (Livingston) Bawcum. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran, serving in WWII and Korea, a retired aerospace engineer for Westinghouse, a member of the Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite, and York Rite, and a Presbyterian.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Bawcum and four brothers, Connie, Jack, John, and Charles Bawcum. , age 71, died Wednesday, November 2nd at Decatur County General Hospital. He was born on August 20th, 1934 in the Bunches Chapel community of Decatur County, to Clearance Ray Bawcum and Mary Della Newsom. His family moved to North Decatur County when he was about three years old. They resided there for many years, and he left at age 16 to live with his grandparents in Parsons. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 14 at home on his bed. He publicly announced Christ as his Lord and Savior a short time later at a little country church nearby that his dad helped to establish and build, and is today named Franks Chapel. He said that the only time that he heard his dad shout was when he walked down that aisle. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ima Jean (Houston) Bawcum; one daughter, Vickie Renee Collins and husband Leslie, of Parsons; one son, Johnny Ray Bawcum, of Parsons; six grandchildren, Jennifer Reape and husband Billy of Port St. Lucie, FL; Amanda Swan and husband Tim of Beach Park, IL; David Collins of U.S. Navy, Jacksonville FL; Jonathan Bawcum of Lakeland FL; and Craig Bawcum and McKenzie Bawcum of Parsons, two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Shawn Reape; one sister, Erma Moore of Parsons; and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleamon Bawcum of Mason Hall, TN and Lloyd Bawcum of Holladay, TN; and one sister, Willie Quinn of Parsons, TN. He met his wife, Ima Jean, in 1953 when he was employed at the old Rustic Theater as projector operator and after getting married, he found that he could not support a wife on $25 a week, so he left Parsons and went back to a previous job in Huntingdon. Even though he was furnished a company vehicle to drive to and from, in those days that was a long daily drive. In 1954, their first child, Vickie Renee was born on December 12th. That year they moved to Huntingdon where they lived until June of 1956, after he was offered better employment in Jackson. In 1959, their son Johnny was born. The family lived in Jackson until 1965, when Max was recruited by a company where he put in a two-year training. In 1966, he was transferred to Florida to finish his training program in Lakeland. After his training period was over, he was made superintendent of operations and served at two different locations until his retirement, when he moved back to Tennessee. After moving back to Tennessee, he and his wife became members of First Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and taught the Sunday School Fellowship class until his health failed him

He was a former TVA employee and a retired farmer. He was a member of Liberty Methodist Church and a Veteran of World War II.

Mrs. Bivens, Who was 57, died Wednesday (15 April 1923) at Decatur County Hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of John Woodrow Bivens and a life long resident of the Liberty Community. She was a Methodist.

- A severe accident occurred in Decatur county near the Carroll county line several days ago. James T. Boyd owned and was running a saw mill; his fireman allowed the water to run low in the boiler which resulted in an explosion followed by fatal results. Mr. Boyd… body blown into atoms. A son of WILLAIM RIGGS was also badly crippled. Boyd was about 45 years old, leaves a wife and several children. He is an own cousin of FRANK ROGERS of this place and has other relatives in the county who sadly deplore the unfortunate occurrence.

He is survived by a sister, Reba Patterson, of Bath Springs, and several nieces and nephews.
