This picture was taken sometime between 1890-1910 in Decatur county, probably around Jeanette Community or Parsons City. William L. Lewis and his son William H. Lewis owned and operated the store at Brodies Landing. The 4th man from the right, setting in a chair and wearing a black vest is William H. Lewis. The man 2nd from the left wearing the bow tie is Havery G. Lewis, the son of William H. Lewis. The man to his right is John Tom Crowder, he is Harvey's brother in law. William H. Lewis was born February 18, 1838 in Deactur County, or the part of Perry county that became Decatur. Famiy tradition says that he was a School teacher in Decatur County before the civil war, and when the civil war started he left for Illinois and rented a room from the Mitchell family, he later married their daughter Harriette, They then moved back to Decatur after the war. In 1870 he is listed as a dry goods merchant with his father (William L. Lewis) living next door who is also listed as a dry goods merchant. In 1900 he is listed as a farmer. Partin [nee Nettie Lewis] entertained for a few hours her three aunts, Mrs. W. H. Howell of Harrisburg, IL, Mrs. George Matthews of Grayville, IL and Mrs. Q, L. McCreery of Rocky Ford, CO who were on their way to visit their sister (Mrs. Partin’s mother) Mrs. W. H. Lewis at Parsons. The three visiting ladies after a most pleasant stay of three days in Parsons, where they were entertained by Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Joe Wheat and family, started on their homeward return last Monday morning, stopping over here until Tuesday morning with Mrs. Partin. This is the first time the four sisters have been all together in about thirty years and the three non resident ones are going to remember this visit to TN as among the greatest pleasures of their lives.
