John Hicks
Dead: John Hicks, one of the pioneers of Dyer County, died at his home in Finley at an early hour yesterday morning. Mr. Hicks came to Dyer County about 1859 from Middle Tennessee, and settled in the Richwood neighborhood, when that section was a veritable wilderness. He would have celebrated his 80th birthday in March. He was a member of the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife; a brother and five children. His sons are Ezra Hicks and John Hicks, of Dyersburg, his daughters, Mrs. E. E. Rawles , Mrs. Sam Rawles, of Finley, and Mrs. Zack Caneer, of Seneth , Mo. His brother is P. Hicks of Crockett Mills. Burial was in Pleasant Hill.

CORRECTION
There was a mistake in the Gazette last week in regard to the funeral of John Hicks. The funeral service was conducted by Bro. Baker and R. F. C. Moss and he was laid to rest in the family burying ground.
