records, obituaries, cemetery headstone readings, biographies, county histories, census data, pensions and other
military data. In short, we'd like to display all the items you used to put together your family tree (rather than
the tree itself).

Giles County was founded in 1809.
It was named in honor of Sen. William B. Giles of Virginia. He was one of the strongest advocates for the admission
of Tennessee into the Union.
He served in the U. S. Senate from 1804-1815, and was Governor of Virginia, 1827-1830.
