Conscription

 

 

 

A general conscription act was passed April 16, 1862, including all white men between the ages of 18 and 35 for the term of three years.

 

On Spetember 27, 1862, this act was extended to include those of 45 years.

 

On February 17, 1864, the law was extended to those between 17 and 50, the term to be for the war.

In Reply to frequent inquiries, you are informed that the Post Masters at Chattanooga, and Knoxville, are the only ones in East Tennessee, who are exempted from Conscription.

Attention, Hamilton County Conscripts

All person in Hamilton County, liable to conscription, between the ages of 18 and 40 years will be assembled at Chattanooga, on the 10th day of January, 1863.

 

Blank certificates of exemption will be furnished, the enrolling officers, to be filled up and Beaned to those who may be entitled to them.  Persons in the county claiming exemption under the law, are advised to make their applications to the enrolling officers at once; that their claims may be decided on the 10th of January.

 

All will come to the place of rendezvous supplied with blankets or other bed clothing.
