All around athlete (football/basketball/ baseball/golf)... Personal: born in 1937 and raised in Lexington, TN... attended Lexington City School (LCS), Lexington High School (LHS) and one year Univ. of Miss- Ole Miss (OM)... Athlete: played three years as a basketball forward/ center at LCS... played four years football & basketball at LHS under legendary coach Gill Gideon; football teams went 29-7-3 during four year career; lettered three years in both sports; in football, an outstanding lineman junior & senior years with teams going 13-3-2 that included a 15-0 win over Jackson during senior year; played in VC playoff games in '51 & '52; selected to various All West TN & All Conf. teams, considered by many to be one of the all-time linemen at LHS; accepted football scholarship to Ole Miss in fall 1955 and played one year freshman football; left team and entered Air Force; played on military football teams at Keesler and Europe, selected to the All-Europe football team in 1958... in basketball first team forward/ center with senior year advancing to TN regional tournament in Memphis; team lost to eventual TN state champion Selmer senior yr.; played in very competitive local Lexington basketball independent leagues for several years in the 1960s; an avid golfer... Coaching: no coaching record... Athletic Honors: voted to All-West TN & All-Conf. football teams, voted LHS Boy Most Athletic senior yr. 1955... Civic: hired as the first manager of the Lexington Bowling Alley in 1960... long time member of Lexington First Baptist Church & the Jack Hay Sunday School Class... Nominated by Tommy Gordon.
