IMOGENE JOHNSON-YARBROUGH

Nominated as an athlete (basketball)... Personal: born in 1938 and raised in Lexington/ Henderson County; attended elementary and high school at Montgomery School (MHS) in Lexington, TN; graduated from HS in 1957... Athlete: excelled in the position of forward on the MHS for three years of 1955, 1956 & 1957; in 1956, the MHS team advanced to the TN State Tournament and was runner-up in the State Championship Game to Burt High School of Clarksville where the renowned Wilma Rudolph was a member of the team and who later to be a World Class Olympic Champion in track & field events; played basketball at Montgomery High School; because of her contributions, the MHS basketball team has received numerous trophies that graced the halls of the school... Athletic Honors: MVP Girls Basketball Player in 1955; made All-District, All-Regional & All-State basketball teams; in 1956, made District MVP Award... Civic: member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, serves on the Mothers Board of the Church, active member of the Sunday School and Bible Study classes, chairs the Church Outreach Program to the sick, shut-ins & bereaved families throughout the city by sending cards and flowers as needed; enjoys association with the Senior Citizens of Lexington & the Golden Age Club, an affiliate of the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, TN...
