Walbert H. Kennedy was born in Sardis TN in Henderson County and moved to Decaturville in 1926 at the age of three, with his family, Atty. E.C. Kennedy and mother Alice (Duck) Kennedy, his three sisters, Juanita, Wynema, Thelma and a brother Hoover. He attended school in Decaturville. He served 3 years in the Army during WW II. He received the bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during the war. He was captured and was a prisoner in Germany. After being "re-captured" by American soldiers he was sent to a hospital in France, then back to the States in May 1945. Walbert camehome at the end of the war and married Gwendolyn Gibson of Parsons. She was the daughter of William Pafford and Minnie Ann Stegal Gibson.

After their marriage, Walbert entered Cumberland University Law School and graduated in December 1947 with a LLB degree. He received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Samford University, Birmingham, AL. He was duly admitted and qualifed as an attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States. He also attended the Institute of Government at the University of North Carolina at ... NC. He worked 13 years for the Tennessee Game and Fish Commission as a field agent. The last nine years he was Assistant Chief of the State, reaching the chief position the last six years he as there. Walbert left Tennessee in1962 and went to work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where he worked for the next 20 years; he was sent to Illinois as agent there. He was promoted to chief of Regulations Division in Washington D.C. for eight years.

Walbert was promoted to assistant Agent-in-charge and moved to Atlanta GA where he supervised the field agents in the 4th Region. The states consisted of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He retired Sept. 1, 1982 and he and Gwen moved back to Decatur County. Walbert was the first commander of the VFW after Parsons and Decaturville joined together. He is a member and past commander of the west Tennessee chapter of X-POW's. Also, he was president of Southeastern Association of Game and Fish Commissioners.

Gwen was a beautician in Parsons and Decaturville before moving away. They have three sons - Walbert Dale, 28 Jan. 1948 attended Culver Stocton College in Canton MO. He now lives in Kansas City MO and works at the University of Kansas. Michael ANdrew Kennedy b 26 Aug 1953 attended Peabody College in Nashville and Clarkston Community College in Georgia. He works for Lens Craft Optical Co. William Patrick Kennedy born Oct. 24, 1962, who after high school spent three years in the Navy. After his service, he attended Florida Institute of Technology in Melborn FL with a degree in oceanography engineering. He now lives in Tampa FL.
