As county superintendent of education, Ira C. Powers is one of Henderson County's best known men. Mr. Powers was born Feb. 3, 1899 a son of the late Shirad and Annie (Jones) Powers. He was born at Ola, Ark.
On March 27, 1921, he married Miss Hattie Mae Dyer and they have three sons, Ira, Jr., Robert and Billy. Mr. Powers is a mason, member of the Oddfellows and Woodmen. He is a missionary Baptist. He attended Industrial Training High School and Union University.
Before becoming county superintendent 13 years ago, Mr. Powers served as road commissioner and justice of the peace.
