Jack F. Reed- nominated as an athlete (baseball)

Personal: born 1932 and raised in Henderson County in the Chesterfield community... died in 2008... attended Chesterfield Elementary School and Lexington High School. Athlete: played high school ball at Lexington High School. Started professional career playing in the Shelby County League as a pitcher in 1952. In 1953, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals Played AA and AAA baseball with the Islanders, a Cardinal farm club. In 1955, he played with Daytona Beach winning 7 and losing 13 with a 5.23 ERA and 16 saves. In 1955, he pitched for Hazlehurst-Baxley with a record of 11 wins and 5 losses. ERA was 3.33 with 13 saves. Arthtritis in his pitching shoulder ended his career early. Civic: local farmer and grocery store owner. Nominated by Dan Hughes.
