HOUSE, 56th General Assembly, 1909-11; representing Decatur and Benton counties; SENATE, 57th General Assembly, 1911 to death; representing counties of Decatur, Benton, Hardeman, Hardinf and McNairy; Democrats Born in Henderson County, Jan. 10, 1836; (Headstone reads birth as 10 Jan 1835) names of parents and extent of schooling not foundo First married to Leora; family name of wife, date and place of marriage, and date of her death not stated; four children by this marriage -- Harttie, Sam, W. J. and Joseph; second marriage in Decatur County, Feb, 27, 1879, to Donie Dennison; two children by this marriageŚCharles and Bessie, Senator Rogers grew up in Henderson County; in 1887, opened a general store at Decaturville, Decatur County, where he was living while in legislature. Served as county trustee three terms; chairman county Democratic Executive Committee several terms0 In Confederate army; enlisted at Camp Trenton, Gibson County, Aug. 15, 1861; in Capt. Isham G. Harris's Co., Tenn Volunteers, which became Co. E, 27th Tenn. Info; made cpl.; promoted to sgt. at undetermined date before January, 1863; wounded at Perryville, Ky, Oct. 8, 1862; appointed ensign or 1st It. Apr. 18, 1864; details of military record after that date not found in official records; widow, in pension application, stated that he served to end of war,, Member Methodist Church; Free and Accepted Masons. Died at home near Decaturville Jan, 18, 1912; buried in Decaturville Cemetery.
