* Lewis-Altom Cemetery *
A well maintained cemetery located at the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church
On Corinth & Nealis Woods Road, about 8 miles north of Darden.

   
On the left - William Alton and his grandson Jacob Everett, 2007, who was 14 at the time. After visiting this cemetery Jacob was upset because there was no sign (the old one had deteriorated). He said he would design a new sign. A short time later he and William (his grandpa) bought the material. Jacob with the help of his dad, constructed this sign. A short while later William and Jacob installed this sign. Jacob is the great, great grandson of David Crockett Altom who is buried here along with his wife Sarah Shipman Altom.

On the right is the Altom Cemetery is Bill Altom and Opal Altom Jarrett. This cemetery is in the Natchez Trace area of Henderson County about 1 1/2 Miles South of the Natchez Trace store near Brown's Creek Lake. David Donahue found this cemetery in 1999 at which time it was indicated there were 66 Concrete Block in place. I have read that the Maness school house was built directly over several graves in the 1920's and


William Altom, Opal Altom Jarrett and McCall Lewis at the burial place of their ancestor, James Alton.

Maness School was built over the graves. McCall Lewis' daddy was a teacher here.

This picture was made in May of 1991 after contacting Natchez Trace Park Rangers, 66 graves were discovered. Markers were placed at each grave. It is now marked with a sign.
