The end of an era for teacher Elmer Duck and old Doe Creek Schoolhouse - 1948. Mr. Duck taught 54 years, more than 25 at Doe Creek located south of Scotts Hill near the Hardin County line. With his retirement the county closed the doors on Doe Creek Schoolhouse built of logs soon after the end of the Civil War for church and school use. Mr. Elmer and his students pose outside and inside the building for Gordon Turner, who featured the school in a newspaper article. The students sit on benches offering advantages, especially the little boy fron tow who holds his "Day In and Day Out" reader upside down. The Doe Creek cemetery nearby is the resting place for Mr. Duck and his wife Sudie Duck. He died in April 1951 at the age of 72. (Photo Nancy Turner Jackson)

TAKE A WALK THROUGH TIME

This story was written by Paris Lavelle (Duck) Medbery with her son Alva William Medbery Jr. Paris Lavelle Duck was born June 22, 1929. She was a student here at Doe Creek all these many years ago. She was also the daughter of Elmer Duck the teacher. Her story tells us about life in the "old days".
