THOMAS LOGAN PHILLIPS , born February 13, 1877, son of Riley and Emmaranda Phillips, departed this life Sunday morning at 12:30 o'clock, March 29, 1942, age 65 years. Mr. Phillips was married to Miss Raffie Ryals April 15, 1906. To this union were born four boys and a girl, namely; Hubert Edward who preceded his father in early life; Mrs. Annie Mae Benson of Middlefork; L.T. of Henderson, Noah Franklin of Lexington and James Elbert who is serving Uncle Sam, stationed at Fort Hancock, New Jersey; and two grandchildren, Virginia and Billy Wayne Benson. Mr. Phillips was not a member of any church but was a believer of the Primitive Baptist faith. When approached on one occasion as to his readiness to meet God, he said: "I have hope and am doing the best I can." He also said to James, as he was leaving for camp, when he was at home the last time; "Good bye James. Be a good boy and if I don't see you anymore, meet me in heaven." He had strength when deciding what he believed to be right and was an exceptionally devoted father and it can be truthfully said that he was a good neighbor, helping out in many times of need. He leaves to mourn his going, besides his immediate family, two brothers, Noah Phillips of Henderson and Walter of Jackson. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. Shutt of Nashville at Unity Church with burial in Unity Cemetery.

TOM AB. PHILLIPS - Last Saturday morning Tom Ab. Phillips, aged 65 or 70 years living about three miles from Sardis and in the old 13th district took his gun and told his wife and sister that he was going out to kill a squirrel. After awhile when he failed to come back, the ladies went out to look for him and found his body about 100 yards from the house. Of course it could not be told definitely whether Mr. Phillips' death was from accident or design, but conditions pointed to the latter. He was a good man, an excellent citizen and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tom and Homer, who are in business in Sardis under the firm name of Phillips Bros., and two married daughters. His eldest son, William, lost his life in France in the World War. We can add to the words of men who had know Mr. Phillips for years that our county had no better citizen and his presence will be missed.
