LEVI S. WOODS died at 12:35 p.m., Wednesday in the Crook Infirmary in Jackson after an illness of many weeks and after days and nights during which the end might have come at any time. Judge Woods real illness dated from some time in March when he and Mrs. Woods returned from a stay at Biloxi, MS, the trip having been made for the benefit of both. After his return and a day in Jackson during which he improved in condition, Judge Woods was brought home to Lexington, But Dr. J.H. Howard not being able to give him the attention necessary he was carried back to Jackson four or five weeks ago. Some time ago it became evident that the beloved Judge was not long for this world and the two past weeks have been but a period of waiting for the end. Judge Woods was born in Carroll County November 17, 1848. His early struggles, his career as a lawyer and his eminent service of 22 years on the bench will form a fuller sketch of his life, which will later appear in these columns. As a Christian gentleman and citizen, as an able lawyer and just judge, we have long regarded him as the peer of any man in Tennessee and for the bereft wife and daughter especially we eel the sympathy born of more than 25 years of close friendship. The remains reached Lexington at 9 a.m. yesterday (Thursday) and Messrs. W.V. Barry, E.F. Boswell, T.A. Enochs, E.E. Muse, H.E. Graper, L.T. Fielder, C.G. Gathing and D.E. Scott acted as pall bearers in conveying the remains in the home as well as at the funeral at 4:30. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J.M. Pickens and with loving hands all that was mortal of a truly great and good man was conveyed to earth in Lexington Cemetery.
