Micajah "Cager" Scott was the town's first merchant whose log storehouse stood across the street and a little to the north from the present day Methodist Church, a spring was located a little to the west.
Micajah built the first log store in the community in the 1840's, this became an early stage stop, along the newly built Stagecoach Road. In 1850 a post office was established at this location. This is the only post office in the country named Scotts Hill. Cager honesty and store location inspired the town's name.
A salesman from Paducah, who sold Micajah a bill of goods accidentally dropped a $20 bill which the salesman, nor Micajah saw at the time.
After the salesman had gone, Micajah found this bill and knew that it must have belonged to the salesman....so he saved it, such bills were scarce here then.
When the salesman returned weeks later, Micajah asked him if he had missed any money after he was last here. The man said he was short twenty dollars when he counted up that night.
Micajah handed him the $20 bill that he had put back. The salesman was very pleased and remarked that the settlement was growing and would soon need a name.
To honor Micajah, he suggested the name Scotts Hill. Thus being how the town received it's name.

Micajah Scott was the first man buried at
Grandsire Holmes Cemetery.
Unfortunately the wife of Micajah's wife name has never been found. Since Micajah was the "first" person to be buried in
this cemetery it leads me to believe that his wife outlived him.
She is probably buried here with him, but there is no documentation of it.
