Rev. Joel W. Whitten died of yellow fever, Decatur, Ala., Oct. 20, 1878, who would have had his 55th birthday in December; born Newberry Dist., So. Carolina; son of Mason and Nancy (Hair) Whitten. Licensed to preach, Methodist Church, Aug. 27, 1840 at the age of 16 years, 8 months; preached in Tenn. Conference, the various charges detailed in this obituary; married (1) Miss McDaniel; (2) Miss Mercer, both wives of Jackson Co., Tenn.; surviving him was second wife and one son.
