Charlotte Elizabeth Applewhite Robertson - AGED WOMAN'S DEATH - Was 96 Years Old and Personally Acquainted With President Polk
Paris, Texas, Dec.26, 1901 - Mrs. Charlotte Elizabeth Robertson, aged 96, died at 12 o'clock last night at the home of her grandson, W. A. Roach, on South Birmingham street, as a result of a fall eight days ago, in which she sustained a broken hip. The deceased was born in Southampton county, Virginia, and was a daughter of Col. Hardee Applewhite, an officer in the Colonial army during the revolutionary war. When ten years old she moved to Tennessee. She was personally acquainted with President Polk, his father, General Polk, and her mother owning adjoining farms. The deceased has been a resident of this county since 1870 and leaves a son and a daughter surviving her here. July 30 - William Jennings died last night at the Alkin hospital of dropsy.
July 29- J.M.C. Gates died today at his home a few miles east of Paris and will be buried tomorrow by the Odd Fellows. Mr. Yates was a brother of ex-Governor Yates of Illinois and had lived here a long time.
