Astoria Argus, Astoria, Fulton County, IL - In ink unreadable George W. Roosa Dies In Texas [submitted by Sara Hemp] George Wilson Roosa, 61, died May 30, 1974, in General Mexia Hospital in Mexia, Texas, after an illness of several months duration. He was born Jan. 9, 1913 in Astoria, the son of John B. and Nelle Horner Roosa. Mr. Roosa attended Illinois College and was graduated from Kemper Military Academy and Northwestern University. During World War II he served as Criminal Investigator in England and Korea. After his discharge from the Army in 1954, he lived in Dallas, Texas, where his work was Criminal Investigator with the U. S. Civil Service Commission until his retirement in 1969. He married Mill Helen Bower in Galveston, Texas, on April 2, 1942. They were the parents of one son, John Daniel, who resides in Houston, Texas. Both survive. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Lee of Mexia, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Vinton (Carol Roosa) King of Jacksonville and her daughters, Jane Melin, Carol Turpin and Rebecca Mays; one aunt, Mrs. F. W. (Maude Horner) Tompkins; and several cousins who line in this area. The late Mrs. Edna Moul of Astoria was an aunt of the deceased. Funeral services were held in Mexia, Texas on June 1, 1974, where he had last resided. Interment was on the Bower family plot in Prairie Hill, Texas. The Morning Worship Service at the Astoria United Methodist Church on Sunday morning, June 9, will be dedicated to the memory of Mr. Roosa. Rev. James E. Friesner, pastor of the church will conduct a memorial service in his honor. He was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church. |
