Wealthy Gray County Woman Die's at Pampa, PAMPA. Texas. Aug 22 (AP)-
Mrs. Joe Bowers 57, pioneer resident and member of Gray County's richest family, died in a hospital here Thursday
night with her husband, three sons, Aubrey, John T. and Joe Jr.. at her bedside. The Bowers ranch estate south
of Pampa became productive of great wealth late in 1927 when a gusher oil well was drilled. The area still is the
most productive in the county. Attorneys said Mrs. Bowers left a will disposing of her share of the rich estate,
but details were not made public. The funeral will he held Saturday. August 23, 1930
Brown
Crash Injuries Fatal To Founder of Pampa PAMPA, Texas (AP) - Montague K. Brown, 86, who helped found Pampa when
it was little more than a Stop-off for train crews, died Thursday night of injuries suffered in a 2-car collision.
He was one of the drivers. Funeral will be held Saturday at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Mr. Brown came to the
Panhandle to liquidate the Franklin Land and Cattle Co. and stayed to become a citizen. He was a mayor of Pampa
and held many other civic posts. September 12, 1964

Man Wounded by - Pampa Officer Dies PAMPA. Texas. Nov. H (AP).— Grover B. Landers, wounded by a city officer Thursday
when Landers allegedly resisted arrest, died Thursday night. November 10, 1928
Reid
Pioneer Texas Cowman Dies Sunday at Pampa, PAMPA. Texas. June 5 (AP).-F.
P. Reid. 63, pioneer resident of the Pan- handle and long-time leader in public affairs throughout the region,
died early Sunday night at s local hospital following a paralytic stroke at noon Saturday. The pioneer stockman,
civic leader and highway enthusiast had been a resident of the Panhandle since 1897 when he established a ranch
near Mobeetie. He moved to Pampa in 1919 and served as Mayor of the city for seven years, from 1919 to 1924 and
; from 1926 to 1927 when he retired as the manager-commission form of government which he had sponsored was installed.
Long a highway enthusiast, Reid at the time of his death was president of the Oil Field Highway 41 Association
Surviving are the wile and three daughters. Mrs. Otto Rice and Mrs. G. C. Crocker of Pampa. and Mrs. Shirley Cox
of Mobeetie. Funeral arrangements are pending. June 6, 1932
Smith
Early Pampa Editor, Joe Smith, 89, Dies
PAM PA. Texas, Dec. 26 <AP>-Joe M. Smith. first editor and owner of the Pampa News, now the Pampa Daily News,
died Friday. Smith publisbed the first issue of the Pampa Crony in 1907, buying the paper later and changing the
name to the Pampa News. He sold the News to the Nunn-Warren Publishing Company in 1926 and continued to live here
to attend to real estate holdings. Surviving are one son. Joe Smith, and one sister, Mrs. C H Clark, Wichita Falls.
The body was sent to Bonnam for burial. December 27, 1936

Pampa Woman. 89. Dies, PAMPA, Texas . March 3 (AP)— Mrs. Marian Walstad, 89. who came to the Panhandle from Norway
fifty years ago. died Wednesday. Survivors include 141 descendants, including eighty great-grandchildren. March

Willis
Pampa Child Killed When Cars Collide Special to the News.
WICHITA FALLS. Texas, July 28.- Eli Willis Jr- 5-month-pld son of Eli C. Willis of Pampa, and formerly of
Wichita Falls, was instantly killed in an automobile accident near the town of Marlow. Ok- late Monday. The parents
with the baby had been visiting Mrs. Willis' mother and while returning the auto collided with an- other
car. The body was brought to Wichita Falls, where the funeral will be held Tuesday morning from the home of W.
T. Willis, grandfather of the child. July 29, 1930
