Carlos Bee
(1867—1932)
BEE, Carlos, (great-grandson of Thomas Bee), a Representative from Texas; born in Saltillo, Mexico, July 8, 1867,
where his parents had moved after the collapse of the Confederacy; returned with his parents to San Antonio, Tex.,
in 1874; attended the public schools and the Agricultural and Mechanical College; studied law while working as
a railway mail clerk; was admitted to the bar in 1893 and commenced practice in San Antonio, Tex.; United States
commissioner for the western district of Texas in 1893; district attorney of the thirty-seventh judicial district
1898-1905; chairman of the Democratic State convention in 1904; delegate to the Democratic National Convention
in 1904 and 1908; served as a member of the city school board of San Antonio 1906-1908; president of the county
school board of Bexar County, Tex., 1912-1914; member of the State senate 1915-1919; elected as a Democrat to the
Sixty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1919-March 3, 1921); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1920 to the Sixty-seventh
Congress; engaged in the practice of law in San Antonio, Tex., until his death there on April 20, 1932; interment
in the Confederate Cemetery.
