Annual Military Ball – The Governor Shows Up with the Boys Diked in a Swallow Tail coat and Patent Leather Shoes

Attempts Suicide.
Austin, Tex., Aug. 9-Sam Harris, aged sixty, a blind negro, attempted to commit suicide by hanging. Harris went to the woods near his home and place a rope over the limb of a tree and swung off. He was unconscious when discovered and the physician had much trouble in resuscitating him. He wanted to die because he was blind.

Word has been received here that Dr. Horace Casteline Clarke passed away at 1:30 last Friday afternoon at the residence of Miss E.T. Folsom, 1802 Colorado Street, Austin, Tex. He died from effects resulting from injuries received while on duty as surgeon in the army. During his illness he was attended by Mrs. Virginia Doppe and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
