Green River Star Friday Ju;y 4, 1913 Every one is busy these days getting ready for the fourth. Mrs. A. S. Brown is visiting in Salt I.ake. Mr J. C. Goings and his brother E. B. Goings made a business trip to Green River this week. Mr. Gus Hagerman made a trip to Salt Lake this week on business as watermaster for the Sheep Creek Irrigating Co. Mrs.. Neilson went into Green River this week «he expects to go on to Hot Springs for her health. She hat been suffering for some time with rheumatism. Her stay will be indefinite. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hagerman, Mr. and Mrs. Eisspehr and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hagerman took a trip up to the head gates this week for an outing, they expect to he gone a couple of days. It is said that fishing is good at Henerys Fork and Green River. Some fish have been caught in the ditch as far down as Connor Basin, 10 it is said. We wish to say for the benefit of the public that no one need feel that he or she are escaping the proverbial seven years bad luck for killing a cat, by leaving them at Birch Springs for it amounts to practically the same thing. We are informed that Mr. Carl Stoll Representing the Burnt Fork & Linwood Telephone line will be in Manila next week looking after business. There is a project on foot to build a line from Lone Tree to Lyman which will give the valley a direct line to the outside world again. This is good news, we certainly need it. Lot the good work go on. Speaking of telephones most of them have been disconnected at Manila. Mr. Ansel Twitchell having the only one in town. All the neighbors are under obligation to him for kindness shown in receiving and delivering messages. Better pay his yearly assessment. Friends we are willing to contribute our share at any time. It is no more than right. Mr. Inspire wife and daughter are making our valley a visit and seem very favorably impressed with this country. We hope they will decide to buy land and locate here. Mr. Inspire owns a fine farm in Nebraska and may not want to break away from old associates, never-the-less, we are always glad to have people come to look over our country, and it looks well at this time. What might have been a serious accident occurred on Friday when the team of Mr. Nels Palleson got loose from the hitching rack at Linwood and started for home. A man on horse back ran after them but his horse was not fast enough to overtake them. They ran clear to Manila and after making the circuit of the town several times, one horse fell just in front of Charlie Hagerman’s home, and they were caught. Fortunately no one was in the buggy, so aside from some breakage there was no damage done, neither horse being hurt. The Manila boys went to Burnt Fork to try a game of ball last Wednesday and got licked in great shape, but the Burnt Fork people, if they did beat us at ball certainly know how to dispense hospitality with a lavish hand. All were well entertained and stayed to the dance which was a complete success. Among the visitors from Manila who went up to see the ball game were, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hagerman, Mr. and Mrs. Einspehr, Mrs. John Goinga and Miss Jessie Storms of Linwood. Bettor practice up boys and invite the Burnt Fork boys down to our town for a game and see if the people here also know how to be hospitable. ![]() Friday September 4, 1914 Green River Star

August 1, 1913 Green River Star Hay making is in full blast these days and every one is busy. Most of the first crop is in the stack, and is of much better quality than last year. The yeild is so much better in many fields. We have been having an abundance of rain the past three weeks and the country is looking fine. It is reported that a three inch rain fell at Birch Springs in thirty-six hours. Mrs. George Sadlier has been quite sick for the past few days, but is improving as this writing. John Briggs was called to Beaver on the 25th to attend the funeral of his father. Mr. Briggs went by way of Lyman, from which place his brother will accompany him. E. B. Goings is running the saw mill for Mr. Larsen, and Frank Briggs is working in the capacity of sawer. J. H. Boynton upon returning from Green River City found that his residence had been invaded by the flood from Antelope Hollow, due to the heavy rain fall recently. Fortunately no damaged was done except to the hay crop. Mrs. Mona Schofield has just arrived among us after visiting in Green River for two months. We are very much pleased to have the lady back home again. Mrs. John Briggs received the sad news this week of the death of her son-in-law, who has been ill for some time. Coming so soon as it does after the death of Mr. Briggs father, makes it especially sad. Mr. Briggs and family have the sympathy of the entire community. Mrs. Neilson had just arrive home from the hospital in Salt Lake City, when she received the sad intelligence of the illness of her mother, and left immediately for the bedside of her aged mother. J. M. Goings contemplates building a good dance hall on the lot where the building was commenced some time ago. This will be quite aam addition to Manila, and is badly needed, as we have no place to hold social gathering except in the church. Mrs. Ronholt has been suffering with a slight attact of the appendicitis, as while she is feeling some what better, will no doubt soon have to go to the hospital Have we a road commissioner? If so his attention should be called to the condition of the bridge just west of town. Some one may get a horse crippled there. Mr. and Mrs. Hagerman are the happy parents of a fine baby girl born May 24th. All doing well June 13, 1913 Green River Star. Walter and Esra Bourne twin brothers there, have each had one foot amputated. The young men attempted to walk from Green River to Linwood and their feet were frozen.
