Amy "Amazing Amos" Greetham 1985 ~ 2007 Amy "Amazing Amos" Greetham passed away
peacefully on the beautiful morning of October 8, 2007 following a year and a half battle with cancer. The cancer took her body but it never kept her from "shaking her booty". Amy was born June 13, 1985 in Salt Lake, Utah to Gary Greetham and Barbara Jacobs. She graduated from Kearns High School in 2003. Amy's journey has inspired many to be involved in raising money for the American Cancer Society and Primary Children's Hospital. Throughout her battle with cancer, Amy never complained, but thanked everyone for taking care of her. Her strength and her story have touched even those who have never come in contact with her. She has been asked to give multiple speeches at charity events and was excited when asked to be the chair-person for 2008's West Jordan Relay for Life. She even received a scholarship through the American Cancer Society. Amy's goal was to give hope to others with cancer and to have people learn from her experiences. Amy, you've obtained that goal to a high magnitude and with such grace!
Amy is survived by her mother, Barbara Jacobs, father and step-mother, Gary and Allison Greetham, sisters, Shelly Owens (Jason) and Jessica Rosenlof (Nate), brother Jeremy Adams, niece, Kylee Beckstead, nephew Kade, best friend Jake Russell, grandparents, Jon and Marilyn Richins, Gayle and Joy Greetham, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She has a great love for her family and we love her more than words can say. We love, because we were loved. The family would like to thank the ICS team at Primary Childrens, the Huntsman Group, and her home nurse Raegan. A special thank you to Dr. Phil Barnette for giving us two more years with her. A Celebration of Life will be held Fri. October 12, 2007 at 12 Noon at the Gathering Place at 1100 W. 7800 S. Midvale, Utah.

LEWIS
Salt Lake City News

This afternoon, in the family of Mr. Lewis, on the Twelfth Ward, a child died of diphtheria.  A case of the same dread malady has appeared in the family of Joseph F. Simmons, in the Twentieth Ward. At a house in the Twenty-first Ward where a case of diphtheria existed for some time, the patient is now almost well, and the flag will probably be brought in tomorrow.

Funeral services over the remains of Miss Silver, of the Seventeenth Ward, took place yesterday.  On Sunday evening the young lady succumbed to the terrible attack of diphtheria from which she had been suffering.  She was 22 years of age, and a daughter of Wm. J. Silver, Esq.

The house of R. K. Thomas, in the Seventeenth Ward, was quarantined yesterday.  The reason therefore is that four of his children are down with scarlet fever.  There is also a yellow flag flying at A. M. Musser’s on Canon Road.  The Descret News says that the case of sickness there is not far enough advanced for the physician to determine whether it is scarlet fever or the measles, but the quarantine was done as a precautionary measure.

The examination of the depraved wretch Peter Stephens, on the charge of rape, committed on his eight year old daughter, was conducted before Commissioner Norrell today.  The proceedings were private.  The evidence did not warrant holding the defendant on the charge made but showed that an unsuccessful attempt had been made.  Stephens was held to answer to the charge of assault with intent to commit rape, and his bonds were fixed at $500.  Being unable to obtain securities, he was sent to the penitentiary.

SNOW
HEAD OF MORMON CHURCH DIES AT SALT LAKE CITY
Lorenzo Snow, Fifth President of the Mormon Church, Who Was Once Convicted and Sentenced for Polygamy and Who “Leaves a Large Family”
Salt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 10 – Lorenzo Snow, fifth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, better known as the Mormon church, died unexpectedly at his private residence this afternoon. The immediate cause of death was hypostatic congestion, superinduced by aggravated bronchitis.
President Snow’s death caused a shock to the entire community, and it is deeply deplored by all classes, for he was regarded as a broad minded, generous-hearted Christian gentleman, who desired the upbuilding of Utah as well as the progress of the Mormon church. President Snow’s death dissolves the first presidency of which he was the head, his two counselors being Joseph Smith and Rudgey Clawson. Until his successor is chosen, which may not be until the annual conference next April, the leadership of the church will evolve upon the council of twelve apostles, of which body Smith is the recognized head. Unless death should come to him in the meantime, Smith will be the next president of the church. President Snow leaves a large family, its members being scattered throughout the world. All have been notified of his death.
Lorenzo Snow was born in Mantus, Portage county, Ohio, April 31, 1814, and received a classical education at Oberlin college. He became a convert to Mormonism in 1836 and immediately began proselyting. Since then he has been one of the most active and prominent members of the church organization. He has been on numerous foreign missions, the most important being that to Great Britain in 1840, where he became president of the London conference. In 1848, at the head of a train of wagons, he made the overland trip from Illinois to the present site of Salt Lake City and in all the work of founding and building up this city he was a leader. For thirty years, commencing with 1852, he was a member of the territorial legislature, chiefly as presiding officer of the upper house. In 1855, with fifty families, he founded and named Brigham City, in northern Utah, which was his home for many years.
In 1886, during the agitation against the practice of polygamy, he was convicted of polygamy. He was convicted of unlawful cohabitation and sentenced to three terms of six months each, but later was released on a writ of habeas corpus. On September 13, 1898, he was chosen president of the church in succession to Wilford Woodruff.
