History and Genealogy
for
San Juan County, Utah

Volunteers Dedicated to Free Genealogy

Our goal at Genealogy Trails is to transcribe and post genealogical source data so that family researchers can track their ancestors through time, throughout the country.

This county site needs a dedicated host to make this site the best that it can be!
If you think that you may be interested in volunteering to host a county or state please view
our
Volunteer Information page and contact Nancy.
(A desire to transcribe data and the know-how to make a basic webpage is required)

Join our mailing lists for researchers looking to connect and share information. You never know who you might meet and what family data they may share with you -- it could start a whole new branch of the family! We also use the mailing lists to announce our website updates.

Remember to look around at the other states we have online and consider donating your source information -- every little bit helps someone.

We accept transcribed data contributions of:

  • Biographies
  • Birth Records
  • Cemetery Transcriptions
  • Death Records
  • Land Deed Records
  • Marriage Records
  • Military - Veterans, Casualty Lists, etc.
  • Obituaries
  • Wills

Please email Sandy if you have any questions or comments.

We regret that we cannot perform ANY personal research for you.

In area, San Juan is the largest county in the state.
Its county seat is Monticello and the largest city is Blanding.

It was named by the Utah State Legislature for the San Juan River nearby.

4 corners marker
San Juan County includes the Utah section of the "4 Corners"

The county's western and southern boundaries lie deep within gorges carved by the Colorado and San Juan Rivers. Tributary canyons, cutting through rock layers of the surrounding deserts, have carved the land up with chasms, cliffs and plateaus. In the center of the county are Cedar Mesa, Comb Wash, and the Natural Bridges National Monument. Rising above all, the Blue (Abajo) Mountains rise to nearly 12,000 feet, covered with lush forests vividly contrasting the scenery below.
