LIFE CRUSHED OUT BY WAGONSan Juan County Rancher Killed on Dugway
BRANDING, Dec. 2.—Francis Washburn WAS crushed to death shortly after noon Wednesday when his wagon overturned at Recapture, a hill on The Blanding-MontIcello road. From Indications at the scene of the accident, John Howley, who recovered Washburn's body, Is of the opinion that as the dead man's wagon started down the steep dugway the queen bolt came out, allowing the tongue to drop. The wagon brakes apparently refused to hold against the snow on the road and Washburn was compelled to turn his vehicle sharply up the bank. This caused the wagon to turn over and the driver was caught beneath. Mr. Washburn was the son of F. I. Washburn of Blanding and came to San Juan County with the early settlers when a boy. He is survived by his widow and six children. He was hauling pigs from this place to his ranch at Alkali when the accident occurred.Date: 1921-12-02; Paper: Salt Lake Telegram - Submitted by Barb Ziegenmeyer
