Carter Berkeley
Nov. 3, 1839 —In Hanover co., in his 72nd year, suddenly, while feeling the pulse of a dying patient, Dr. Carter Berkeley, a lineal descendant of Sir William Berkeley, a graduate of the Edinburgh Medical School, a distinguished physician, and much respected for his upright, benevolent, and religious character.

C. C. Bridges
On December 14, 1915, after an illness of two weeks, Clifford Cabell Bridges passed away at his home, in Ashland. Va., at the age of seventy years. He was known and loved for his genial, warm-hearted, and generous disposition. Mr. Bridges was a native of Richmond, Va., but, with his family, moved to Ashland about twenty years ago. He had served throughout the War between the States as a member of Otey's Battery, Hth Battalion of Virginia Artillery. After the war he was for a number of years connected with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and other business organizations in Richmond. He was laid to rest in Hollywood Cemetery. He was married in 1870 to Miss Lizzie Ragan Macgill, daughter of Dr. Charles Macgill, surgeon C. S. A., and, besides his devoted wife, he is survived by six children— four daughters and two sons.

Joseph Busby
     Died, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. H. V. Hackett, at Doswell, July 18, 1914, Mr. Joseph Busby, of Doswell, Va., in his eighty-eighth year. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters and two grand-daughters – Mrs. Samuel H. French and daughter, Miss Helen, of Auburn, N.Y., and Mrs. H. V. Hackett and daughter, Miss Virginia, of Doswell, Va.

     Burial was made in the family plot at Fork Church Cemetery.

Charles Chiswell
Mr. Charles Chiswell, of Hanover county, aged 46, died last Monday night in this city. Buried in the churchyard.

William W. Clift
Mr. William Wombwell Clift, of Hanover county, died of a pleurisy; of a good family in Yorkshire, had travelled much, and was a good judge of men and books.

Cecilia Darracott
Mrs. Cecilia Darracott, wife of Capt. John Darracott, died at his house in Hanover, and interred in New Kent at her father, Mr. William Massey's plantation.

John Langford
On Christmas Eve, died in Hanover county, Mr. John Langford, a noted and skillful musician. Leaving behind a poor widow and six or seven small children. Williamsburg.

Tom Layne

Hanover, Va., December 20. – Tom Layne, an old Confederate veteran, died at his home near Noel yesterday evening. Mr. Layne was seventy-eight years old. He served during the war in Captain William Dabney’s company.

Miss C.F. Porter
Died in Charlottesville, VA, on Monday Jan 5, 1880, at 11:45 a.m. Miss C. F. PORTER, in the 60th year of her age. Her remains will reach the city this morning via Chesapeake and Ohio railway. The funeral will take place today at 11 o'clock from the residence of W.R. JONES, Esq., 813 West Main St.

Died, near Ashland, Va., December 24, Mrs. Carrie L. Wingfield, widow of Colonel Henry W. Wingfield. She leaves four daughters and three sons.

Elizabeth Woodard
Died at Taylorsville, Hanover Co., 8 June. Mrs. Elizabeth V. WOODARD, wife of James A. WOODARD, in her 41st year. She joined the Church in 1828 in Norfolk under the ministry of the Rev. Joseph CARSON. In 1838, four years after her marriage, she located in Taylorsville, having resided awhile in Richmond. In 1846 she submitted to the painful procedure of removing a breast attacked by cancer. A husband, children, and a sister survive. (N.S. v. 2, no. 31. 3 August 1848. p. 124.)
